Guest guest
Hello all, Have any of you ever heard of Dr. Taunton? He is a hip specialist. His practice is in Bedford, Texas between Ft. Worth and dallas? My son has had a CD with graft in Nov. 2003. He was told today that he has a fracture in the end of his femor. I guess the ball. The dr. said either go a complete 6 weeks on crutches or have a THR. This doctor doesn't like resurfacing. He told him it was popular in Europe but it was like a CD. And it was very painful. I've been reading your messages getting ready in case the CD didn't work. U all sound as if resurfing does work and not as painful. I really would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you, Pat
Guest guest
Hi Pat, Only a Resurface doctor would be able to give an answer to this.........However once one has fractures in the femur head area the situation gets complicated...........the Resurface device requires enough healthy bone stock on the femur head to support it........... fractures can compromise that............they will often cut off blood supply and the bone dies.........thus just where the fracture is and extent matters......... Age plays a role too and your son may be young enough to spend the 6 weeks on crutches, heal the lot and then get a Resurface down the track if there is further damage to the hip as a result of whatever the current problem is - sounds like an accident...........??? But as I said only a doctor who knew what he was about would know the answer to what your son's femur would allow......... And yes Resurface devices work very well............. the only real pain most of us have is the rest of the body objecting to our new found enthusiam for life..............and sad that some Doctors have not realised that spreading misinformation only damages their own reputations - which are often won working long hard hours.............. Best of luck in finding answers............ Edith LBHR Dr. L Walter Syd Aust 8/02 > Have any of you ever heard of Dr. Taunton? He is a hip > specialist. His practice is in Bedford, Texas between Ft.
