Well, I went back to the hospital for my wrist assessment in ER this

morning and the first thing the consultant said was " There is no way

that cast is coming of yet young lady! " Guess that kind of scuppered

my hopes of being cast free for the wedding then! lol In fairness he

was very good and very concerned, explaining that we have to be very

cautious because of my ligaments and give them extra time to heal

before even taking into account any Scaphoid injury I have

sustained. Part of me is disappointed obviously, but most of me was

resigned to this and is kind of relieved that it is at least

supported and protected - at least I can't do any more damage to it

in the cast!!

I did mention to him that the plaster of Paris was proving to be

very heavy and painful on my shoulder though, so he has had my

original cast replaced with a light weight fibre glass Scaphoid

cast. It was so funny as I know all the plaster room technicians

really well and we ended up have a huge giggle deciding what colour

to use so it would blend with my outfit for the wedding! I've ended

up with a lovely blue one to match the blouse I'll be wearing....I

have to return to ER next Thursday for further assessment of my

Scaphoid bone and ligaments, but will probably end up being handed

over to Mac form there I think. Poor Mac, he'll never be out of a

job with me around will he? I will of course keep you posted on how

things go.

Well these next few days are going to be rather busy and exciting

(and tiring!) for me as I have some very interesting events

happening apart from the wedding. I can't honestly say I'm looking

forward to the wedding that much, running the gauntlet of elderly

relatives I've not seen in years, asking me " What happened to you "

or " When are you getting married " isn't exactly my idea of how to

spend the perfect birthday! lol Fortunately I do have some other

things planned that will act as the perfect antidote to the " family

wedding syndrome " though.

Firstly tomorrow morning I am meeting the mayor at a large

presentation in my home town. I am incredibly honoured to have

received a letter last week informing me that I been nominated for

an volunteers week certificate by the Blind Group and library

service I have been helping with the past year. I'm feeling really

nervous and excited about it now but I'm sure it's going to be an

amazing event for me, I just really hope that my plaster cast

doesn't clash with the mayors outfit!!

Then tomorrow night, I get my real birthday treat!! I'm off to see

my friends, The Opera Band in concert at long last and of course

meet up with them afterwards too!! I feel like a little child but I

am just SOOOO excited about this as I've been looking forward to it

since February. The band have been so lovely and their music and

kind support have been a huge help to me through the rough days and

my surgery too. This concert means so much to me, it's kind of like

the end result and reward of all the pain and bad times that have

happened. I'm sure that I will be spending most of my time at the

wedding on Saturday daydreaming about the concert the previous

night....especially theguys in their tight leather trousers hee-

hee!!!

I promise I will tell you all about my big " pseudo birthday "

tomorrow, and of course I will get lots of photographs too!! I hope

that you will have a great and painfree weekend. Please take care

and know that I'll be thinking of you all despite the distraction of

sexy tenors belting out Nessun Dorma!!

Love and hugs....Jo

Sounds like a blast, Jo! I hope you have a wonderful time! You

certainly deserve it after all you've been through lately. And I'm

not one bit surprised about getting an award either - more of us

should try to follow your lead. I'm proud to say that I honor you as

my friend and fellow EDSer!

Much Love,

Lana
