JOB DESCRIPTION

Migrant Health Coordinator for Mid-Atlantic States:

Delaware, Kentucky, land, North Carolina, South Carolina,

Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia

The full-time Migrant Health Coordinator position has primary

responsibility for providing and coordinating migrant specific

resources in the targeted service area. The coordinator identifies

areas of need, networks with key stakeholders in any given area, and

provides technical and consultative support for the generation of new

start and expansion applications for migrant health programs. The

coordinator is responsible for developing and/or coordinating the

development of a plan for the specific area that is designed to

estimate the numbers of un-served farmworkers, identify potential

Migrant Health Center applicants, and to follow through with

provision and/or coordination of technical assistance.

The mission of this work is achieved through developed relationships

with community health centers and other local health care delivery

systems. The Coordinator disseminates and communicates information

and policies affecting farmworkers and their families and supports

state coalitions. The coordinator also serves as an advocate for

achieving health care access and reducing health disparities of

farmworkers and their families in the targeted service area.

Responsibilities

1. Refine currently available data to better determine the unmet need

and identify logical service areas for increasing access to health

care for farmworkers and their families.

2. Identify priority areas for new and expanded access points for

migrant and seasonal farmworker health services.

3. Identify key stakeholders in targeted areas, and determine if

there is a potential applicant readily available in the area.

4. Evaluate the potential of prior applicants who have submitted but

not received funding and determine program development needs.

5. Inform key stakeholders of available resource agencies (i.e. HRSA

and BPHC resources, Central Office Grantees, state Primary Care

Associations (PCAs), Primary Care Offices (PCOs), and state Health

Departments).

6. Work with representatives from appropriate resource agencies in

the targeted area to assist with conducting needs assessments,

gathering data, and critiquing drafts for grant application.

7. Work with newly established Migrant Health Centers in the service

area to assure that culturally appropriate care is provided.

8. Participate in trainings with Migrant Health Coordinators across

the country, share strategies that will enhance the work of the

Migrant Health Coordinators at the local level.

9. Provide regular reports on the status of coordination within

targeted service areas.

10. Coordinate with PCAs to develop a plan of action to increase

access for farmworkers in the service area.

11. Facilitate coordination, collaboration, and communication between

states and regions in order to improve health services to farmworkers.

12. Conduct and/or facilitate training for personnel working with

farmworkers including outreach workers, case managers, clinicians,

and other staff.

13. Serve as representative to farmworker health councils and task

forces and help communicate issues through these networks (e.g. East

Coast Forum Planning Committee, NACHC Farmworker Health Committee, NC

Farmworker Health Alliance, Region IV Migrant Health Work Group,

Student Action with Farmworkers, and Virginia Migrant Health Network).

14. Organize meetings and develop projects pertaining to farmworker

health issues.

15. Conduct presentations regarding farmworker health issues and

Federal grant opportunities.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision

The Migrant health coordinator reports to the North Carolina Primary

Health Care Association (NCPHCA) Associate Director for day-to-day

supervision related to employment and project direction.

Qualifications

Have knowledge and experience working in the migrant health field,

familiarity with program operations and population needs. Have public service commitment to achieving culturally competent health care and to improving the well being of farmworkers and their

families. Have at least five years experience in a leadership role. Be able to demonstrate expertise in coalition building, and

collaborative relationships as well as program development. Have strong word processing software skills, and strong verbal and

written communication proficiency. Be flexible, self-motivated, able to prioritize multiple tasks, able

to carry a heavy workload. Be able to work as a team member and work effectively with diverse

people. Demonstrate awareness of, value for, and the inclusion of cultural

competence in task implementation. Be committed to social justice. Be willing to travel.

Bilingual and bicultural competency is strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree is preferred. Hiring salary is

$42,000-$45,000.
