Challis and her family are gone to the Phoenix area. Challis' boys are and . Their dad had a car wreck and their little half brother was killed. My granddaughter, Kelsey, turned 14 on Wednesday. Today we had her party. It wasn't the same without my daughter and her family here:(

The party was a little low key because of having less people here. Kelsey's choice for her birthday meal was sub sandwiches. She ate two giant subs! I could only eat part of a small one. lol I made a candy bar cake--chocolate cake, chocolate frosting and covered with fun size Twix, 3 Muskateers and Milky Way bars. Kelsey was quite impressed:) lol She also requested a pan of brownies from me. , age 9, made a pan of her 'signature' butterscotch brownies. Very yummy!

I love giving books to my grandkids and Kelsey's reaction did not disappoint me! I gave her "The Throne of Fire" by Rick Riordan, a novel based on Egyptian mythology. I also gave her a copy of "The Hunting of the Snark" by Carroll. Kelsey has wanted that book for years and I finally got it for her this year. I have searched Ebay and Amazon for months and finally got a good deal on a used copy. The book has been out of print for years. Kelsey screamed when she opened "The Hunting...". lol What a cool reaction. Kelsey got eye make-up for the very first time (from her parents). She was a happy, happy girl today.

On her actual birthday Wednesday I made her a streusel coffeecake for breakfast (her favorite) and a fruit cocktail cake for dinner.

It was a good day, even though my mind is on my grandsons.
