Guest guest
Hi Jan, I'm glad that you shared your story with us. I think most of us want to know the down side as well as the success stories, as it helps us learn and be better prepared. I'm really sorry you had such a tough time with the resurface, but glad things are going well for you now. In your post you said that AVN occurs in 1 out of 1000 cases of surface replacements. That gave me a start because I was thinking I read somewhere it was 1 out of 10,000. Did your surgeon tell you this? 1 out of 1000 doesn't seem like such good odds. Also you said your surgeon told you that if the femoral device was loose he thought he could fix it without giving you a THR. I have never heard of that being possible, and thought once the thing was loose, it had to be revised to a THR. It would be good to know if this is can be done. Anyone else heard of this? I'm also wondering about small boned women being more prone to AVN after surgery. I'm 5'2 " , and my bone stock in the hip was soft from inactivity. It's been three years since my surgery, so I guess I don't have to be concerned about AVN from the surgery, but wonder if it could still occur down the road. Has anyone else heard that small-boned women are at greater risk? Actually I'm glad I didn't hear that before my surgery or I probably would have worried! I'm thinking that it probably depends a lot on the surgeon's skill whether AVN develops or not. Another reason to find the very best surgeon you can. Hope you continue to improve and enjoy your life with your new hip! Best, Heidi _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected?
