Guest guest
Welcome doc. Always good to have some professional on the books so to speak lol. I like the fact that you do NHS patients as well as private. I had mine done on the NHS and more people like yourself can only be a good thing. God speed to you and all the great surgeons out there who make our lives so much better. Maybe you could add a link on your site, to point people here? > Amazing site! Guest guest
WELCOME DR. BLOOMFIELD! Yeah! I couldn't ask for anything more than to be talking to a real surgeon who does resurf's! You could be the vital link that I search for...you see, I am married to a physician non-believer in Memphis, TN, USA. I was unfortunate enough to be born with protrusio acetabuli...always having had limited ROM in my hips with drastically decreasing ROM as I write this e-mail. I've come across two other people who have both had re-surfs for their protrusio and both have had dramatic results...I WANT MY HIPS RESURFACED TOO!!!!!...but the medical community here in Memphis are sooooo skeptical. I sat next to an Orthopedic Surgeon at a dinner party a couple of months ago and he very bluntly told me " Don't let anyone re-surface your hips! " (Sorry to all you folks on this website who have already heard this poor-pitiful me story!) Do you have any advice for me? How can I convince my husband that this is a tried and true procedure? I have been frequenting this website for 5 months now and feel that I have educated myself with all the links, input from people, etc. but I honestly have not been able to convince my husband, the Internist. Help! AHHHH! Susie in Memphis -- In surfacehippy , " mdbloomers " wrote: > Real eyeopener scrolling old messages: waiting times in Canada > unbelievable. Guest guest
Welcome Dr. It is always nice to have as many informed and professional opinions as possible for people out there making crucial decisions about their health care. Your post is certain to gain many responses from the C+ hippies. I am fine with it. I live in Boston which is probably the home of the most dogmatic and conservative approach to OS in the world. I was told that resurfacing was a waste of my time and a " seemingly romantic " holding pattern for an inevitable THR. These are OS well known around the world in your circles. As I understand it, Dr. DeSmet recently began using the C+ in addition to other devices. Perhaps he is bored with his success and is looking for the company of a few good guinea pigs. At your request I took a look at your website. Where's the beef? Look at JRI or DeSmet's websites if you want an example of informative content that people in our situations find useful, e.g., case studies, experience, resume, procedure, device information, clinical data, white papers, testimonials, etc. BTW, I had my consultation with my doctor and one month later I had surgery that was 100% covered by my insurance. I would like to know more about your comments and clinical data references related to the other devices you " personally would not touch. " Please educate me as I am merely a former jock who probably took far too many high speed crashes and I am just now welcoming my new cobalt chrome friend from . Best...(AKA, guinea pig) Dr. Amstutz 5/04/04 > Real eyeopener scrolling old messages: waiting times in Canada > unbelievable. Guest guest
Well got my knuckles rapped by some! Probably deservedly. Sorry if offended anyone but joined group to have stimulating discussion rather than just make friends. Cannot compete with the gravitas of some surgeons or their websites. Does not mean they are always right. Can say I was a pioneer in my region and stuck to my guns re hip resurfacing. My unit now does more BHR's than any other in UK outside Birmingham (3 colleagues followed my lead). We do both private patients and NHS so we cannot be accused of simply wanting to get rich quick! Agree the prosthesis is only part of the story and surgeon experience, skill and committment just as important. Pity that US patients and surgeons do not have easy access to BHR or Cormet 2000. If C+ beyond questioning why are so many going to Belgium? My point is that hip resurfacing as a concept is " experimental " and controversial enough so why introduce another variable by using a prosthesis that did not come from Birmingham stable ? Worry because every week a rep comes to see me with a new design of hip resurfacing that offers some or other " improvement " . Birmingham group results are the best evidence we have so far. Accept it is difficult for US patients to travel for surgery and C+ maybe only viable option. Hopefully it will also stand test of time. As I have not designed my own hip resurfacing device(and probably never will) my choice is unbiased. Designers will naturally feel their device is the best including Mr McMinn! When I chose a car for myself it had to be the new Mini . I knew there would be all the teething problems of a new model and there were a few hassles. Other owners gripe too. But I had the first one at work and I still love its cheeky image. When I choose a new car for my wife and kids, I will look to manufacturers like Mercedes or Volvo. They are too precious to me to take any chances with fashion. So there is a place for innovation and experimentation but there is also sense in tradition and history. Depends on your philosophy..............................
Guest guest
Also, if you do want to be part of the Corin trial instead of the trial and have a top surgeon with a rare sense of humor and great bedside manner, in Baltimore you have another choice, as well: Dr. s (was Baltimore Orioles OS, teaches at s Hopkins, is at Good Samaritan Hospital --where Mont used to work, as well). He's just not a self-promoter and doesn't encourage others to promote him either. Maureen rhip, 10.31.02, s
