Doctors, disclosures, stocks in pharmacueticals

Hi all

I was looking for an address for a gi doc and found that he owns stocks,

does research, receives grants and advises to several pharmacuetical

companys (AstraZeneca, TAP, Janssen, Wyeth, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Pfizer,

Merck). He also speaks in their behalf. These " disclosures " are on the

web.

Is it a common practice for docs to own stocks in the pharmacueticals that

they specialize in and advise them and receive money from them and own stock

in them? It just seems a bit shifty to me; any thoughts?
