Guest guest
Regarding the samll boned women......my surgeon had mentioned to me after my revision that I had small bones. Strong but small. I did not realize that this could have been a problem and soon forgot about what he had said. Later, as I was trying to figure out why this happened so that I could make a good decision about my next hip, I emailed Dr. DeSmet and he is the one that said that small bones could be a reason for AVN to develop following resurfacing. He also said that I may have faired better with the BHR because it is smaller and requires less bone to be drilled therefore making disruption of the blood supply less likely. My understandign from my doc and DeSmet as well as others on this list is the odds are 1:1000. ph even commented that since he and I developed AVN it cleared the way for the next 2000 resurfacees. I certainly did not want to scare anyone, but I think it is something that everyone needs to investigate before making theri decision. Heidi, I am glad your resurf is a success.
