Guest guest
>>I have brought up switching pain meds to my family dr but she will have nothing of it<< Hum? Well. I suppose I could tell you my opinion of a physician that " will hear nothing of it " but I don't want my email service shut down for blaspheme remarks! I really am not kidding even though it may sound like it. YOU are in charge of YOUR health care! If you are in too much pain to function than.. YOUR PAIN MEDS ARE NOT WORKING! Duh! What is the point of taking pharmaceuticals if they don't work like they are supposed to? Oh my I am starting to feel like standing on a really, REALLY tall soap box! Your pain med guy was EXACTLY right in what he proposed. If meds don't work and you are at a max then switching is the most appropriate thing to do. With narcotics, weaning off is also the appropriate thing to do. The reason you don't see him anymore is because he declined to treat you based on the fact that you went with the family doc's recommendations rather than his? I'm curious because that is very typical for a pain specialist. They decline to continue to treat patients if they do not follow EXACTLY their plan. I am not saying that is right or that is wrong. just an observation in working with gassers and pain specialist in a professional capacity for over 15 years. Anyway back to you. The real issue is pain right now right? But your family doc will not try you on a different brand, right? Do you have any pull with her staff? Do you know what I mean by that? Can you talk to them and have them talk to her? Shoot. you are really between a rock and a super hard place. Are there any other family docs that your family or friends have that you might want to try out? I am thinking out loud here because THERE IS NO REASON FOR YOU TO CONTINUE to be in pain at a level of 8 when there are so many different types of drugs that can be tried. You can write me back off list if you want. Hope to hear from you soon! Debbi So. Cal. EDSer, in the Pink! Re: switching to new pain meds Debbi I have brought up switching pain meds to my family dr but she will have nothing of it. One of the things my pain specialist in Hamilton had set out in the beginning was a cap on how high I would go on oxycontin. If it wasn't giving me relief I would ween off it and then try something else. Since I am not close to him (I live north of Londdon) he is not my primary perscribing physician my family Dr is. She put me over the cap they had agrred upon and didn't follow his advice on a couple other pain related matters he is no longer involved in that part of my care. I agree that a new type of long acting pill is the way to go but she doesn't. Thanks for giving me options to discuss with my Dr.
