I had one batch go missing when one doctor moved from one location to another. Then one lung specialist who erroneously told me I had liver failure " lost " those records when my GP requested them soon after. I've gotten neurotic about getting copies of all xrays and important papers, as so many of our doctors and hospitals here are closing their doors. Not after my diagnosis, but all my records are gone. My last doc moved out of state and closed his clinic. The staff was supposed to transfer everyone's records, but my records never showed up. The nurse at my new docs office said that none of the new patients who transferred over had received their records. -Barb
Guest guest
After being in Risk Management for a Medical Malpractice Insurance co for 20 years, I can tell you that medical records go " missing " quite often and usually for the benefit of the physician! That is why I have said from the very first day I joined this great CEDAfamily.. GET YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS each and every time you have a test, change physicians, have surgery WHAT EVER. Keep a file for yourself and never EVER let that one copy you have for you get away from you. YOU are the only one who is looking out for YOU and so YOU have to take charge of your records. Not only because you cannot sue a doctor/lab/hospital without records (your word against the doctor - you will always loose) (more on that later) but because your quality of continuity of care is shit if the doctors do not know what happened, is happening and is planned to happen with your care! TAKE CHARGE! It is your health care! Debbi AKA: jetskideb SoCal EDS'er Medical records disappeared Very shortly after my initial diagnosis, in my forties, my entire medical record mysteriously " disappeared " instead of being transferred to a new GP. One doctor said it had been sent, the next that it was never received. I was wondering if this or something similar might have happened to anyone else in the group, particularly just after diagnosis? Although I was not expressing displeasure with my previous doctor's at the time for not catching the diagnosis say some thirty years earlier, it has occurred to me since that it must be awfully difficult to sue if no medical records exist, and it is possible that the timing of this loss may not have been a coincidence, after all.
