OT: Keeping single bed in living room ... fire inspection

Hi all,

We are scheduled for a four year fire inspection. Because I cannot sit in an

office chair for long, for years I kept my one bed where an office chair would

be. I use the living area as my den or computer office. I can then turn and

be at my computer desk, printer and monitor. I turn another way I can see my

TV. Best of all, I can take a nap when needed. For my one kidney to work

correctly I must lay on my side every four hours or so.

Another near by conference type table has my office papers. It is very neat.

I use the area like a studio apartment. But now, I been informed that you are

not allowed to have bedroom furniture in the living area.

I think it is because some people are actually have permanent people stay

over. With me it is my disability. The bed at the computer is a great idea. My

rental clerk told me just explain it to the fire wardens. Today, I had an

unexpected pre inspection. I was intimated. The guy told me MOVE the bed. I told

him

I could not move the bed by myself. After he left, I called my MIL and left

messages with my RN and social worker. I have not got a health aide yet. Just

talk. With my BP at its usual high I do not want to be dragging mattresses and

frames around.

The SW finally called back late this afternoon, and said leave the bed where

it is. That when they write me up, if they write me up that then they will

explain my condition. I had thought to move the mattresses and stand the frames

on edge. If I put it in the hall I am still in violation.

I am sure if I was visibly ill ... not having an invisible disability I would

not be going through this. I hate telling a stranger about my disability. You

should see the looks I get.

So, does anyone have a bed in their living area ... without getting grief

from the apartment or fire wardens. The social worker officer did state that

they

should be more concerned about clutter. For that I am repacking up my moving

boxes.
