Guest guest
Hi again, I wrote that original question about how long resurfacing lasts. I'm as suspicious as the next person when a sales rep whose company does not even carry the product tells me it's sub-optimal. In my first message about this, I forgot to mention in my first message that I have AVN in addition to my OA (luckily, unilateral). I have one of those idiopathic cases, so we don't expect me to get AVN anywhere else. I wonder if this rep looked up stats with resurfacing and AVN. I've read that it is predicted not to last as long with AVN as with OA. I just have not seen actual time estimates. My OS says that when he opens up my hip he'll see how deteriorated it is and depending on how much of my femur head has collapsed (it's probably about 35-40%), it's possible that I won't be a candidate for resurfacing. He said that there is a large " gray area " as to whether to try it or not if it's in moderately bad shape. Apparently it will require more bone glue if the is less good bone to work with. I told him that if it can buy me even 5 years before THR, it seems worth trying. So, does anyone know how long it might last, given that I have AVN?
