Guest guest
Hiya all Been for my check up today 7 weeks after right cormet. Have been reduced to one stick and told x-ray looks fine. My ROM is still poor and am having trouble with knee and back pain. I have been advised to remain restricted ie raised chair, toilet seat etc and not to drive until I am seen in 3 months time. My hip doesn't feel too bad, the main probs seem to be with my knee and back adjusting to the change after 20 yrs limping. I did not see the surgeon but his understudy. Has anyone else known the restrictions to remain in place so long? Should i seek second opinion......any advice, similar recovery? Thanks
Guest guest
Dear , After 7 weeks, I still couldn't drive, and didn't drive until 12 weeks. That was because, like you, I had my right hip done, and with poor ROM and still having pain, I couldn't safely manage the gas pedal and brake and safely do an emergency stop. Are you in the UK or elsewhere? (What is your accent?!) In the UK, you have to be able to do an emergency stop safely before driving again, so if you feel better before 3 months, your GP can reverse this restriction. It also depends on what your insurance says. Mine said that 'the doctor' had to say I was ok. As for the raised chair, toilet seat, etc., I just used my own judgement and got off them when things felt ok. Can't really remember when. No one mentioned them. I also had knee problems initially (very swollen). Have you tried some osteopathy for your back? I also used technique. People here try different things-yoga, pilates. As for recovery times-they do vary enormously, and as you will have read here, there is a group of us known as 'the turtles', where we just patiently plod on through ups and downs, sign in for reassurance, advice, help with panic attacks at things not moving, etc. but things do seem to keep moving in the end. As , who posts here now and again keeps reminding us, full recovery can easily take up to a year or more. Patience, patience, patience. But it is hard. Eleanor Ps I did enjoy the holiday from work, because I couldn't drive and therefore couldn't get there. Advice on 7 weeks post op Hiya all Been for my check up today 7 weeks after right cormet.
