Guest guest
Well, I've gone and done something I never thought I'd do. Yes, that's right....I bought myself a wig! No kidding. I didn't exactly plan to, but I happened to see some really very lovely ones in the window of the local Merle Normal store when I went to the beauty shop (it's only two storefronts down). I was drawn inside, and tentatively looked about. Just as I was about to leave in embarrassment, the owner spied me and was so friendly and kind and really just made me feel very comfortable. I explained to her that I am about to undergo a rather extensive and serious neck surgery (second spinal fusion), and that there will be several weeks when I won't even be able to wash my hair with water.....only the " dry " shampoo stuff (which is better than nothing, but definitely not the same as water, shampoo, and conditioner). Those first few waterless shampoo weeks will then be followed by another few weeks when I still won't be able to bend my neck at all, and will be in a neck brace. It will also be a tremendous challenge to curl/style my hair during this time. In fact, it already is due to my pain level and lack of stamina. I told the store owner all of this, and that I definitely did NOT want to change my hair color (red is good, thank you very much), and certainly didn't want people to immediately look at me and think, " That woman is wearing a wig! " The owner was very understanding and sympathetic, and said, " Honey, you'd be shocked to know some of the local ladies who are wearing my wigs. Just try one on. Mine don't 'feel' or 'look' like wigs. In fact, many of them have a 'natural' scalp beneath the hair to make them even more real in appearance. You'll find them quite comfortable, too. " She showed me how to put one on, how to fix it, etc. I immediately saw the possibilities and convenience of being able to quickly cover up a " bad hair day " and just simply look and feel a little prettier (that's important to us ladies!) with a minimum of muss and fuss. I chose a wig that is so similar to my very own hair color and style that I actually wore it at home a number of times in front of my immediate family and completely fooled them! When I finally did work up the courage to share my " secret " with my family, they were not only surprised but very supportive! I had honestly expected wisecracks at the very least from my teenagers, but what I got was the total opposite: " Wow, Mom....you look great! You really had me fooled! That is SO COOL! " Lennie liked it so much that he suggested that I get a couple more so that I could quickly and easily change my hair style if I wanted to...another thing that's important to us ladies every now and then. He actually took me to the Merle Norman Store himself, and helped me choose a couple. We both had fun, and I'm honestly pleased with the results and possibilities.....so much so that I wanted to pass this on and recommend it! Guest guest
: This is just so great, and an excellent idea. Colour and style match must be excellent when your own kids don't notice the wig. I'm certain it will make your recovery period sooooo much more pleasant to have pretty hair to " wear " . Put that autonomic nervous system on a positive track. Good luck! Bernie I guess I've flipped my wig! Well, I've gone and done something I never thought I'd do.
