Description: Firefighters still were trying Saturday to extinguish a sprawling wildfire that has been burning since Thursday in Comanche County. Comanche County spokesman Killmer said Saturday afternoon the fire encompassed about 31,000 acres, but that total likely will increase as it pushes farther west into Kiowa County. As of Saturday afternoon, the fire continued to move west through the northern portions of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, and east near State Highway 115. Killmer said 10 homes have been lost in Mountain Village in Comanche County since the fire began. Three helicopters also have been brought in to assist with water drops. The east side of the fire remains partially contained, but crews are focusing on the west side of the fire in more mountainous terrain. Killmer said about 100 homes have been evacuated in the area since the fire began. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
