Guest guest
Dear Limpy (but not for long!), You'll get a continuous drip of IV Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for 24 hours (I think). Ask for something stronger if it's not working well enough for you. Other Belgium surfacehippies have posted that they asked for and received stronger pain medications. If you curently have a prescription for Tylenol #3, Vicodin or any other medication for pain that works for you, you might want to bring it along. Definitely bring any medications for unrelated conditions, such as hormone replacement therapy , depression, etc. Unlike in the States, hospital patients in Belgium usually bring their own maintenance medications with them and self-administer them. I brought my own Tylenol #3 and took it during the hospital stay, with the knowledge and approval of my nurses. I continued to take it along with regular Tylenol after the transfer to the HI. The maximum recommended dose of Tylenol is 4000mg per 24 hours. Going over this a little isn't a problem for a few days unless you have liver problems. Long term, you don't want to exceed the 4000mg daily limit. I had one staple, and Jan, the nurse, removed it while I was still at the HI. I had one stitch at the top of my incision that had to be removed. My sister is a nurse, and she snipped it for me at 10 days post-op. The rest of the stitches were all internal and resorbable. If you think of any more question, fire away. Many members of this group, including Steve, answered my bucketful of questions when I was making this decision and planning my trip to Belgium. It's good to be able to return the favor! (RPh) rBHR 3/3/04 De Smet to steve and linda Re: question bucket > Dear Steve and , > Thanks so much for the detailed advice!
