Guest guest
Good for you. Most of us here have had to make that decision to fly in the face of traditional answers and search for the solution to get our lives back. I'm glad that you found De Smet. He certainly was my answer. Best of luck to you- you are indeed in good hands. Kind Regards, Rock climbin' Jude LBHR De Smet 09/11/02 Also De Smet Sept 28 Could be another band... This group is great! I have learned so much and been pointed in so many new research directions it's taken me six months to figure out what I'm going to do. I've got relatives in Holland not far from Gent, so I can go visit at least after... Brief story: October 2002, I was hit by a u-turning car on my motorcycle. I left a 12 inch deep dent in his front fender for which I traded the cartilage in my hip joint. A week's worth of misdignoses later I finally got a hip x-ray and there it was. There was no question of fault, so now I'm waiting while his insurance company drags this out as long as possible. I'm going to pay for it on my own for now, it just hurts too much and I'd like to get my life back... My original hip doctor advised me to wait as long as possible and then get a THR, he has lots of experience doing those. No alternatives were offered. I started looking for any surgery that would leave me more of the joint and fewer restrictions than a THR. I can't remember how I ended up in this group, but I first discovered Amstutz and co. That led me to BHR and Corin and so on,(the companies) then I made it to Dr. de Smet and the ANCA Clinic and I had found my answer. Koen's just a go-to guy, and his office is impressive simply for the sheer speed of communication. I'm actually looking forward to the experience. If anyone's interested the digital camera shot x-rays are at http://momentum.rotomoto.com/hiprays/2004/ Ugh. All of the american resurf docs seem a bit, well, American. Indoctrinated as they are by the managed care industry and the American litigious habit, they seem a little remote. An overgeneralization no doubt, but ANCA really feels like a small group of people who are very passionate about what they do and each hip is a challenge to be met with the best possible answer. I'm ready. I've been training for a month or so, and the day after surgery day I'm gonna WALK out of that place by gosh! -Anton
