Most live below the poverty line and live in substandard housing. Agriculture is one of the most dangerous occupations nationally yet farmworkers are exempt from many workplace safety laws. Farmworkers are fighting for a living wage, job security, benefits, the right to organize and bargain with their employers without fear of retaliation. Please join the fight for farmworker justice, by attending SAF's Sowing Seeds for Change Symposium! About the Symposium The Sowing Seeds for Change Symposium is Student Action with Farmworker's national conference with a local focus. It affords the opportunity for campus activists, farmworkers and farmworker organizations from South Carolina and the surrounding region to come together, share resources and strategies for farmworker advocacy and build a strong network of farmworker justice advocates. What will happen? * Workshops on hot topics like Black/Latino alliance, immigration, the DREAM Act, H2A and other guestworker programs, health issues, student organizing, boycott updates, sustainable agriculture and more! * National and local speakers * Reception for SAF's Recollections of Home/Recuerdos de mi Tierra Documentary Exhibit on farmworkers * Information Fair featuring local and national organizations who support farmworker justice * Entertainment * Silent Art Auction * Workshops in Spanish and English, interpreters available Information Fair An Information Fair will be held Saturday, November 8th. Organizations will set up tables to distribute information and dialogue with participants.
