After 5 years of going twice a year, he switched me to once a year as he said that eye problems aren't as common as they first thought. Don't get me wrong...it is a side effect of the drug....but just a very rare one. I do make sure I go once a year. I was on plaquenil from 1989 until I went off it myself (bad bad girl) around 1995. I was in remission and felt great. I just thought that I could give my self a break from all drugs. It worked for a few years, then the lupus came back.....I will never ever take myself off it again, as the long wait of 6-8 weeks for it to start working again is not worth it. I praise plaquenil.
