Employment considerations

Hi all,

An employment ad in today's paper intrigued me and I could use some

advice.

I'm currently a high school English teacher and love teaching. I

enjoy my students and am valued in the school district because of my

rapport with the kids and the fact that my students pass their state

exit-level English exams at a very high percentage. Because of this,

the district has not made my health problems and number of sick days

taken an issue.

The downside is that teaching is strenuous and the days are long.

It's me in charge of nearly a hundred teen-agers in total each day,

with only one period off and 25 minutes for lunch. Then, of course,

we all have to sponsor clubs and help out at evening events, plus

grade all of those papers!

There was an ad in today's paper for an education director of the

city Children's Museum. Obviously, I'm well-qualified for the

position and while it, too, probably involves some nights and

weekends, there wouldn't be the day-in, day-out LONG days of having

to control teen-agers! Also, I teach outside of my home city, so the

35-minute commute each way every day would be eliminated.

Should I apply? I'd like to, just to have options, but I don't want

to upset or offend my current principal if the museum would call him.

I'm afraid of jeopardizing my current employment! What would you do?

-Anne
