Guest guest
Women who have had a hysterectomy do not need to have an annual Pap smear because they are not at risk of cervical cancer, a report says. A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds many women in the United States who have had a hysterectomy continue to have Pap smear screenings. In 1996, " based on accumulated evidence from observational studies, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommended that routine Pap smear screening is unnecessary for women who have undergone a complete hyster- ectomy for benign (non-cancerous) disease, " the study said. The authors, from the VA Outcome Group and Dartmouth Medical School, added most women who have undergone hysterectomy are not at risk of cervical cancer because they no longer have a cervix. Doesn’t this sound logical to you? I had no idea women were getting pap smears with nothing inside to look at! Express yourself with over 8,000 FREE Email Smileys - click here!
