But I too firmly believe there is a viral component to this >illness >Take care everyone, > > > , I think you're right on the money about the connection being a serious viral infection, not necessarily mono. Based on a quick web search, there seem to be a lot of papers and abstracts being published that are pointing to just that, although it does seem the connection is more clear cut with CFS than fibro. The virus diseases that seem to be mentioned most often are mono, herpes, polio and hepatitis. I've never had mono--but I did come down with hepatitis when I was 7 years old and living in India. Before that I was always full of energy and loved playing outside and was into sports; after that I was always tired and the last one picked for the team. I've been diagnosed with fibro, CFS and lupus--looking back over my life it seems that the CFS started up after I had hepatitis, the lupus struck when I hit puberty, and the fibro developed after my first child was born. Interesting coincidence though. During my 8th month of pregnancy, my husband came down with mono so I was definitely exposed but never got sick and tests for EBV antibodies have always been negative. What a mystery. The only thing I'm sure of, thanks to everyone on this list, is that it isn't all in my mind. Margaret

I had pneumonia when I was a Junior in High School. There was no such thing as antibodies. I almost died. I did not go to the Hospital as my mother was a nurse and the doctor felt that I would get better treatment at home. If you can believe it, the doctor made house calls. That was a long, long, time ago. Take care, Irene Books may well be the only true magic Alice Hoffman
