She had an ERCP with brushing about 3 weeks ago and has been feeling terrible ever since Before that she was feeling as good as it gets!! They removed a few stones and sludge. A week later her calf muscle got really swollen and hard as rock, she could not walk. We took her to emergency. They eventually decided it was an inflamed muscle pinching the nerve. They treated it with antibiotics and steroids. It got better. Now a week later the same thing but this time her calf and quad are swollen. She also runs a fever with this....around 102-103. Has anyone else experience this??? Why is she suddenly getting this. The Doc's do not seem to really know the cause etc.?? My husband and I are really worried. Any words of wisdom will be welcome. Have her doctors ruled out a deep vein thrombosis (DVT): http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23068982/ " Some conditions such as vasculitis (inflammation of the vein wall) and some drugs (for example, some chemotherapy drugs) can damage the vein and increase the risk of having a DVT. When I was in the hospital recently I got a thrombosis at the site of an IV, for which I got Vancomycin (an antibiotic). Turns out I can see that another vein in the arm has turned hard and a bit greenish. I wasn't worrried about it before, but now I am. Should I go to urgent care with this? Could I have a blood clot that could break free and go to my lungs? Guest guest Posted November 9, 2008 Report Share Posted November 9, 2008 Hi Marie; The reason I suggested deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as a possible cause of Gwynn's daughter's calf muscle swelling is that her daughter has vasculitis and this is a risk factor for DVT, and the symptoms seemed to fit (fever and pain in the calf muscle). Thrombophlebitis is the name given to a blood cot in more superficial veins, and I understand that this can occur as a result of IV's. There's an article comparing superficial thrombophlebitis with deep vein thrombosis in a recent edition of JAMA: http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/reprint/300/14/1718 I understand from this article that a pulmonary embolism, a condition that can be fatal, results from a DVT that becomes loose in the venous system and travels to the lungs. If you are concerned about a possible blood clot, please do talk to your doctor about these concerns.
