Guest guest
Well, if anyone can hammer it through my thick head what I should do now, I swear I'll try my best. I got suspended from work for too many absences, so I'm off the next few days. Going by the book, if I get three more absences in between now and May 11, 2003, I get fired. And I can't promise I won't have more absences. I try my best, work through being sick almost every day, but it's going to be impossible to promise perfect attendance from here on out. So if anyone can tell me how to apply for FMLA, please drop me a note? I am so shocked and scared. I need this money really badly, and if I get fired it will be that much harder to get another job. I have worked for this hospital for 15 months, so I am eligible in terms of how long I've been employed here. But I don't know how to go about it. I thought that I had to exhaust my sick leave to get it, but if I exhaust my sick leave I get fired. So I don't have a clue how to go from here. I appreciate any info anyone can send me. What makes this even harder is that my annual evaluation ranked me above average in every aspect of my job, except absences, where they gave me an average, NOT a below-average. Then they suspended me a week later. (My evaluation was done very late, after nearly 15 months) I'm pretty scared. Hope you guys can maybe help a little or let me know where I can go for help. Guest guest
Oh Em, I'm so sorry. I wish I had information to offer you, instead of sympathy. I've never understood how employees can be so heartless when it comes to illness or vacations. Even completely healthy people need down time every so often(usually more often than vacations come up), and we need it even more frequently than they do! I'm thinking of you, and hope someone gives you the advice you need, and you can get things resolved favorably. Take care,

Guest guest
Hi Em, I work for the federal government and applying for the FMLA has been made very easy and almost automatic for us. When we fill out our leave slips, there is a section that relates to FMLA--all we have to do is check the box that says we want the hours we missed to fall under the FMLA, and then check who it is for--ourselves or a family member. We do NOT have to be out of leave in order to do that (although of course I always am). If we take more than 3 days off at a time, a medical certificate is required. That's it. I would ask whoever handles your payroll about this; someone there should have been through training and be able to answer your questions. Your Human Resources people should have the information as well. If you can't find anything, please email me and let me know and I'll ask someone on my end what you have to do. Good Luck with this. I think you are allowed 270 hours in any one year but can't swear to it. Margaret margd@...
Guest guest
I'm going through some of the same things at my job. My boss left me a note suggesting I go part time since all my doctors appointments were effecting my productivity. Now I may have doctors appts but I still somehow manage to work over 40 hours a week! She also told me today " your doctors appts are going to have to STOP...or get them on Saturdays " . She has told me I'm the reason our health insurance has gone up because of my physical therapy...I guess she has forgotten about her BRAIN surgery!!! I work for a crazy woman!!!! Guest guest
I was missing alot of work too but kept bringing in doctor excuses but my supervisor and some co-workers talked and made fun of me alot. The last year and a half I worked was awful. I was dealing with my illness at the time didn't know what was wrong and them picking and talking about me all the time. One day I lost it due to not feeling well and some crap they pulled and was going to hurt one of them bad. I went to head person and got told it was me and would have to switch plants. There is very cruel and heartless people in the world. I had worked their for 4 and a half years and my co-workers not that long. I was a very hard worker and good at my jobs!!! I ended up so sick over the mess and lost the job at other plant. I never had a chance and nobody cared or listen. I tried getting other jobs but nobody wanted me cause of what happen. When my doctor finally found out what I had how much I hurt and was tired all the time then she helped me get my disability. But the doctor I have now could care less about me or the meds I can't take so looking for a new one!!! shirley Work meltdown disaster Well, if anyone can hammer it through my thick head what I should do now, I swear I'll try my best. Guest guest
It should be 12 weeks for FMLA. Unless it changed this year. I was fired in February. ~ :-D Re: Work meltdown disaster Hi Em, I work for the federal government and applying for the FMLA has been made very easy and almost automatic for us. Guest guest
Em, I am very familar with FMLA. I have been using this off and on since Feb of 2001. And oddly enough it was my Manager that hooked me up. He did not want the home office to send down any punishment. so here is what you do. Go to your personel office and request the leave of absence form. Take it to your doc and have him fill it out, then back to your supervisor to approve. Supervisor may not be happy but, if doc says you have to have the time, well, what can they say - I'm sure they do not want you to push your legal rights !!!!!!! There are several routes that you can take - Continuous Leave - complete time off without using up sick days or getting points against you or Intermittent/Reduced Hours Leave - this is determined by you & your doc to decide how many hours per day or week you can work. If you have a good Doc that is understanding he/she will have no problems with this. Good Luck, And don't let your work place push you around - you do have rights !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! gentle FM Hugs, Cinda -- In @y..., janissa@o... wrote: > Well, if anyone can hammer it through my thick head what I should do now, I > swear I'll try my best. Guest guest
Back when I was first having problems I was working at a hopsital. I worked with my cousin's wife. I had a bad strain and was on restricted work. I also was talked about and the person who was talking was my cousin's wife. To this day I make sure she know's I was not faking and was in real pain. I took a couple days of disability leave due to being hurt on the job and I did call in a lot because of the pain. I ended up quiting as a result of the pain and the backstabbing co-workers & family member. And to think, she's the Supervising Nurse of the floor now. Glad I did not stay. I just wanted to let you know you are not alone when it comes to jerks at work. I hope FMLA works out for you Em. ~ ---------------------------------
