Guest guest
Good Lord woman...I'd be freaking out...I think you need to call your doctor immediately or go the the emergency room. Do you have sleep apnea? I really don't know what to say other than it's very important you get to your doctor or any doctor!!! anne - I'll say a prayer for you =) Near Death Experience? Hi Folks: I wonder if any of you have ever had an experience like this: I almost died in my sleep last night. I am sure of it. It wasn't a dream..I was semi-conscious. I was aware of what was going on. I could see my body in the bed and my room. My whole body was paralysed and the only part that was working were my eye-lids. I was breathing but it was very shallow and slow. I could feel myself sinking...my mind was very alert and so I was forcing myself to LIVE..I just wouldn't give up. This battle went on for quite a while and then finally I snapped out of it. It was so scary that I sat on the edge of my bed for a long time..too frightened to go back to sleep. I was wishing that I had someone I could have talked to then. I do have this fear that I will die in my sleep. My grandmother did. I wonder if it is the fatigue? Perhaps if fatigue got so bad, could it slow one's breathing down to a complete stop? Especially when a person is unconscious in sleep? I am so frightened. I am afraid to go to sleep now. I don't know what to do!!! Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. Guest guest
Hi Lynne, I have never experienced anything like that but it sounds a little bit like the paralysis associated with narcolepsy--one is awake but can't move. It doesn't seem like there is much to worry about with these episodes, from what I've read. The thing that worries me is your breathing pattern because I don't recall that described as a symptom. It sounds to me like you could benefit from a sleep study, but you should probably call your doctor right away and find out if this is life threatening and what to do about it. Also do a search on narcolepsy and sleep apnea, especially check out forums--you might get some ideas from other people. Sleeping while sitting up or sleeping with a fan are just two ideas I've seen. I can imagine this would be very scary. I hope you get an answer soon. Margaret >Hi Folks: >I wonder if any of you have ever had an experience >like this: >I almost died in my sleep last night. Guest guest
Lynne What you had is an out of body experience. This is not near death experience. Then you do not breathe anymore and are clinically litterally dead. What you experienced is quite normal and often brought on by fatigue, very deep meditation or stress factors. Yes you cannot move a musscle and feel paralyzed, but that is not death since your heart rate became very shallow and slow. With a near death there is no heart rate anymore. I do speak out of experience as I have had both NDE as well as OBE's The latter I do on a regular basis. At first I too was scared to death, but now I literally go flying around the country and go where ever I wish to. tender hugs corry Near Death Experience? > Hi Folks: > I wonder if any of you have ever had an experience > like this: > I almost died in my sleep last night. Guest guest
Lynne, Sounds like you had an out of body experience. Anyone who is into New Age stuff could tell you about them. From what I've read, if it happens suddenly like that, it can be very scary, since you assume you must be dying. You could do a lot of research on-line about this subject. I would still mention this to my doctor, especially since you felt so panicked by it. Personally, I think it's kinda cool this happened to you. I always wanted to have an out of body experience while having surgery. That way, I figured, I'd be able to see what the doctors were doing, if they were making inappropriate comments, etc. Of course, I have no recollection on whether or not this ever happened. Just the doctors telling me about the insensible things I'd mumble. :-) Just remember Lynne, there are many people out there who would have loved to have experienced what you did. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Dear Corry: Thank you so very much for your feedback....it really helped me with my fear although I can't deny that I am afraid to go to sleep tonight for fear it will happen again. It is an extremely unpleasant experience. A few of the other kind members on the list suggested sleep apnea and narcolepsy but I am on a very lousy health insurance and it will not pay for a sleep study. So I am stuck with this; whatever it is. As long as my heart keeps beating and I can snap myself out of it, it's okay, but the worst part is when I am struggling with all my might to make myself move and snap out of it. My body is literally paralysed although I can see perfectly and my mind is quite alert. It may be stress as I had a very stressful weekend and it also be some painkillers that I took that might have been too strong and depressed my respiratory system. No more pain-killers before bed! Thanks again, Lynne --- Grieta Stuart gstuart@...> wrote: > Lynne > What you had is an out of body experience. This is > not near death > experience. Guest guest
Margaret: Tonight I am going to sleep sitting up and with a fan on me. My mother had narcolepsy and did that same thing. Perhaps this is something hereditary??? Thank you for your feedback. Guest guest
Anne: Yes I have been freaking out all day but that only makes it worse. I need to calm down and figure out a way to stop it. One helpful list member suggested that I sleep sitting up and with a fan on me which is exactly what I intend to do tonight. Thank God for this list. You can't begin to know how much better I feel after reading the feedback letters. God Bless you all:) Warm Hugs, Lynne --- Anne Scarborough annedmj@...> wrote: > Good Lord woman...I'd be freaking out...I think you > need to call your doctor immediately or go the the > emergency room. Guest guest
Dear : Thank you for your feedback. I am going to look up OBE in the Google search engine right now. Guest guest
Bless you Lynne, How frightening that must be for you. It reminds me of a book I am currently reading called " Spiritwalker: Messages From the Future " by Wesselman. It's quite an interesting book, and in the first twenty or so pages it gets into what's called sleep paralysis. The book is considered non-fiction and is written by a scientist who has a similar experience, altho his is quite pleasant, even tho he was confused and frightened by it initially. What I find most interesting about the phenomenon he describes is that he was a non-spiritual " straight from the book " scientist who believed only what can be proved scientifically. Consequently he was not really " open " to believe anything else. His experiences changed his life, both scientifically and otherwise--for the better. I have no idea whether your experience was a dream, OBE, or whatever -- but you would probably find this book interesting, and it might make you less fearful. And, as others have said, repeated lack of sleep can do a number on all of us. Surround yourself with pleasant things and people who are non-toxic and supportive. That helps a lot in relaxing the body to help encourage sleep. Take care. I hope your fears are set at ease soon. Bev
