  • 1 year later...

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Lynn from southwestern Nebraska. I have been

on thyroid supplementation for 55 years (I'm a female 57 year old), ever since I

had a thyroglossal cyst in the middle of my neck removed. I was on proloid for

21 years, then Armour for 26 years, then Synthroid for 5 years because I was

told Armour was no longer available, then Time Cap Labs currently and for the

last four 4 years. In the last 4 years my dosage has been as high as 3 grains

(I took it for 2 weeks, developed palpitations, and also felt like I was going

to explode). I did well on 2 grains for over two years, developed very

bothersome palpitations after having a 5 day " flu " , took 6 months dropping down

to 3/4 grains before the palpitations went away, and have built back up to 1 1/2

grains for the last 1 1/2 years. I take 1 gr. when I wake up and 1/2 grain mid

to late afternoon. I was up to 1 3/4 grains for a couple months and started

mild palpitations again.

During the last 4 years I have also been taking AdrenaCort, an adrenal

glandular, as well as a lot of additional vitamin, mineral, and " superfood "

supplements, in addition to a compounded topical hormone cream with biestrogen,

progesterone, and testosterone. I was also doing 2 miles on the treadmill twice

a week and yoga. I eat mostly a paleolithic type diet.

I thought I was doing everything right, but my recent DEXA showed I had lost an

additional 11% bone density in the last 3 years (I'm now at the osteoporosis

level), and my ARL hair analysis showed I have a t4 to t3 conversion problem as

well as tissue resistance to thyroid, in addition to other mineral imbalances

The mineral ratio that measures vitality says I have only 12% vitality, and I'm

a very slow oxidizer in the exhaustion phase. My acupuncturist says my pulses

indicate I'm at a level 4 out of 10 energy level. My biggest symptoms are low

energy, about 10 pounds excess weight, getting loose hairs on my hands when I

wash my hair, and my eyelids feeling very tired starting around mid-afternoon.

It's worse some days than others, but on my worse days I feel like I have

trouble keeping my eyes open. My eyeballs sometimes feel heavy-maybe like they

were swollen. This symptom was worse when I was down to 3/4 grain. The eye

symptoms are the most bothersome. I have dark areas around the inside corner of

my eyes, on the side of my nose.

My BBT was 98.0 degrees oral this morning, and my mid-day temperature yesterday

was 98.6. My blood pressure is about 100/60. My AAL 24 hour urine panel last

year showed my estrones, dhea, pregnanetriol, tetrahydrocortisone, and total

corticosteroids were all below the reference range. My prior 2001 and 2002

Aeron saliva tests showed low levels of sex and adrenal hormones.

I'm sorry to have bored you with all of these details, but this seems to be a

very knowledgeable group, and I know you need some facts before you can be

helpful. I have two questions. Has anyone else been bothered by similar eye

symptoms, and if so, found anything helpful? Also, I'm not sure if my problems

are more adrenal or thyroid. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Lynn

Sounds like a combo of low thyroid (probably as we have pretty well determined

Time Cap Labs is weaker than Armour) and menopause. Since you bone density

started after the Time Cap labs switch I would suggest you get back on regular

Armour, It IS available. Also after finding low hormone levels a year ago did

your doctor put you on any hormone supplements? Progesterone cream would be my

first thought as many of us when we head into menopause our Estrogen levels can

shoot up which binds thyroid hormones and further makes us hypo.

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply. I had my first bone density test in 1999, while

still on Synthroid, and 1 1/2 years before I started on Time Cap Labs. I

was already showing osteopenia then, so I'm not sure how much of my

osteoporosis can be attributed to taking Time Cap instead of Armour.

I allowed the switch to Synthroid in 1996 because that was prior to my

getting online, and I still believed conventional medicine doctors and

conventional health media then. The internet is really a godsend for

finding out the real truth, and I've been following Shomon's web sites

and discussion boards for about 5 years now, as well as some other thyroid

sites. I found out about this group when someone recently mentioned it on

the Healing Crow yahoo group.

Ever since I've been on the internet I've known that Armour really was

available. However, my doctor said he liked Time Cap Labs better than

Armour because he didn't trust what Armour was doing with the formulation.

This group is the first place I've seen reference to Time Cap, so I'd

appreciate it if you could give me a quick primer on why it's considered

inferior. I'll check the archives too.

In 1997, in my pre-internet days before I knew better, I took Ogen and

progestin for 2 years. I developed fibroids and very sore breasts from

that, so I stopped those pills. I took nothing other than synthyroid for 6

months, and then I took Evista for 2 years. In the summer of 2001, when I

switched to my current doctor, I started on a compounded topical cream with

bi-estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. I used the cream for a year,

when my saliva tests showed my estogens, progesterone, and testosterone

levels were sky high. I didn't use anything for a year, and then had my 24

hr. urine panel. Based on those test results, I've been using a compounded

cream again, but it's compounded with a lower dosage this time.

So since I'm on a cream, I'm not sure how much menopause has to do with my

symptoms. It's possible the cream is not helping me, because I am

experiencing some vaginal atrophy. I guess I just consider the adrenal or

thyroid to be more suspect.

Many of us could not get Armour without a script for a while, and we tried TCL

thyroid. I was at 7 grains a day to compare to the 5 grains of Armour I am now

on. It is a good product but weaker than Armour. Most of us felt better on

Armour.
