Guest guest
Hello, I have a question. I have a friend who has lumps on the top inner eyelid. One side is worse then the other. She told me about how her eyes were hurting so I told her to get to a specialist right away as I thought it might be glucoma. I also gave her supplements that I had on hand that were supposed to be for eyesite. But told her to get to the doctor. She went to the specialist and he told her honestly he didn't know what it was, and so wouldn't treat her with antibiotics. He said he would order blood tests, but is very busy . . . So this is over a week ago that she say him and still no order for blood tests. But wait the plot thickens. He also mentioned that it might be a deeper problem. And asked her if she was having hair loss and weight gain? She has both. To bad he is an opthamologist . . . as he mentioned that the root cause might be a thyroid problem. He told her no makeup. This woman wears makeup everyday of her life, but has cut out the makeup. He gave her some drops that are over the counter drops, and he told her to wash her eyes, and rinse her eyes frequently. Nothing seems to be getting better. Her eyes are blurry, and the eye that is further progressed is scratchy, and she feels she is going blind. You cannot at this point tell that she has the lumps under her eyes, or it wasn't noticeable the last time I saw her. I told her to start taking her temp. She did while we were on the phone and it was low. She has an ear thermometer (she does daycare at her home . .. . so the fancy thermometer, and is the sole support of her family.). I suggested she take her temp before getting out of bed and then 3 hours later and another three hours after that. Recording the times when she takes the temp, but grouping the a.m. together, midday, and afternoons. This so a trend can be noticed easily. I also advised her to ask for free T3 and Free T4 tests, but am not sure when she will be getting her lab requisition. But if she asks for the extra ones the right way she should be able to get them. What other labs should she have them do? Have any of you on this list had the same kind of eye problem? She doesn't have a computer so I will be checking the subject of the emails to be sure I don't miss any replies. Thank you. Guest guest
Sheila- Helicobacter pylori, which causes ulcers, blepharitis and chelazia (chelazions), and cea, can also cause this. There are probably a number of other things that can cause this but this can really become a problem especially in (undiagnosed) hypothyroid. When I was at the stage of your friend, in my twenties, Rx prednisone eye drops helped. There are a number of treatments for Helicobacter. I have done a bit of research on this one, so if you want the 4-drugs-in-oneday-therapy or if you want the information on the ancient Greek cure of mastica, a hidden ingredient in most patent medicines for heart-burn, let me know. .... Guest guest
One of my very first symptoms before I was diagnosed hypothyroid and my TSH was 324, was my eye infections, I was back and fore to thr doctors, grittiness then watering eyes, and puffy lids, all rreally painful, Interestingly thr optician had a hard time with me I am shortsighted and he couldn't get the prescription right and I had like a double vision in the form of a sharp lines, When doctors can't explain the think that the patient has psychiatric problems!! No-one believed my sharp edged line. Thyroxine sorted it all out, interestingly since I added some Armour and reduced the thyroxine I had a sore eye over the last few days so maybe I am undermedicating. So eye problemscan be a first sign of thyroid problems also I remember for years I used to get a chest pain hours after exertion doctors used to say it was a trapped nerve.. Guest guest
Please , send me the information to my email address. But probably it would be good to have in the files too? For some reason that name rings a bell, but why wouldn't an opthamologist recognize this as the possible problem? I forget what email address I am using for this group. LOL I have about 4 that all go into the same account. So let's stick with info@... Thank you, so much. And I will keep you all apprised of how this goes.
