Our Coordinator told us on Friday that our Hep, who is also the director of the liver transplant unit, and another hep (our 2nd favorate doc) have both resigned from the transplant program at IMC (Intermountain Medical Center) in SLC. The top surgeon is also retiring - all at the end of this year. She said she didn't know any details but there are "proposals" submitted to IMC Administration that will affect the entire transplant program. Once again, she didn't know any details. I asked in they would be closing their doors and she said no, but things are really pretty difficult there.

IMC is a new hospital (14 Mos) and is state of the art, however, they have been having some financial problems and announced recently that they will not be contributing to the 401k plans for their employees and they are laying people off.

This leaves everything up in the air and is very disappointing, however, it doesn't change much on our end unless they close their doors. There is another tx program at the University of Utah, however, it would be very expensive for us to change since we have double insurance coverage at this program and if we change to the U of U program, the secondary insurance wouldn't pay. I'm pretty sure that things will work out at IMC, but whatever happens, we will work through it and all will be well.
