Anyone know about pancreatitis esp chronic ? Braden has had 4 episodes

of acute pancreatitis after some of his ERCPs (for bile duct

obstructions/stents). His panreatic stool elastase was tested before

he had the 2nd-13th ERCPs and was good at 774. After he had

pancreatitis so many times it was tested again and was borderline ok

at a little over 200. 200 is definitely low but not critically low. I

don't know what it is now- hasn't been tested for a while. He has a

lot of symptoms of chronic pancreatitis and we have tried pancreatic

enzymes but they didn't seem to do any good and he had problems with

not absorbing the capsules that the enzymes came in..and the enzymes

are too hard on his gut - when not in the capsules...He also has bile

acid gastritis from bile refuxing into his stomach from his altered

bile duct anatomy (needed because of repeated obstructions)

so...pancreatic enzymes are 'risky' for him according to his former dr

at least.

I am wondering if anyone has a similar story with a huge drop in stool

pancreatic enzymes after repeated pancreatitis ? Probably not because

most people don't have a reason to have it tested before pancreatitis

?? (Braden was tested because of his short gut and his first cbd

obstruction)

BTW- in case you are wondering the current GI is more focused on

Braden's short gut and doesn't seem to for now at least explore my

question @ this and other things- so i am trying to gather information

to bring to him.
