> ... helps to stop the itching, BUT check the ingredients and seeif it contains the sweetner "aspertame", ... Aspertame is one of themost dangerous sugar subs. ...You can get cholestyramine (Questran) without the aspertame, but thenyou get more sugar.Cholestyramine is sold under a number of brand names, includingCholestyramine, Cholestyramine Light, Locholest, Locholest Light,Prevalite, Questran and Questran Light. The Light/lite versionscontain sugar substitutes (usually aspertame), while the "regular"formulations contain more sucrose. In the case of CholestyraminePowder there is 3.8g of sucrose (about 15 cal) in a scoop (9g) ofpowder (4g of anhydrous cholestyramine resin - the active

ingredient).Cholestyramine Light has much less sucrose, 0.7g (2.7 cal) per scoop,so those avoiding sugar opt for that formulation. Other brands mayvary the ratios of inert ingredients, but I believe they all aresimilar to Cholestyramine Powder and Cholestyramine Light.I do not like the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners so after oncegetting the light version, I always made sure that future orders werefor the regular version.Tim R, who hope never to have to take cholestyramine again.
