Guest guest
Hi Allicia, I am a new member here, but have been in and out of numerous support groups both on and off line since being diagnosed with FM. I guess the biggest reason I leave groups is that I have to concentrate on the positives in my life. Even though I enjoy the interaction, and DO receive a lot of comfort and support, and the knowledge and info that I find in these groups, at times the " woe is me's " and frustrations become too much. I always come back, though, because I do need the chance to talk about FM with people who understand, and cry out my own pain to people who won't think I am just whining. Also, I have never found a DR that can keep me as informed of new treatments and techniques for dealing with FM than a widely dispersed group of motivated researches such as we grow to be in our search to understand what is happening to us and ways to cope with it. Welcome back, and please stay this time, you need us as we need you. Mike > Hello all again: > Some of you I'm new to, others I've been here before and was just put > on the no mail list. Guest guest
Hello Allicia, I am so sorry to hear that you are in a huge flare up.....that is horrible...and I understand completely. Over the years I had tried many times to go off my meds, and to try other alternatives. But it never lasted long, and the symptoms always returned with a vengeance. But 7 months ago I started a vegan diet and was able to go off my meds. I have had no need for any medication since that time. If I go off my diet, even for just something as wonderful as chocolate, I can feel it within 18 hours. I had been on methedone for the pain for over 2 years when I started the diet, and I walked away from it. My doc had told me I would have to wean myself off of it, and that it would dangerous for me to do it any other way. I only had 3 days of withdrawals from not having it. But it really wasn't that difficult. I knew that I did'nt need it anymore, and I also know that chronic pain patients do not ever become mentally addicted. So it was easy to walk away, as I no longer had any pain. I could of never imagined life without pain. I had multiple symptoms of these horrible illnesses but the pain was always excruciating. About a year before I started the diet change etc, my liver and kidneys had began to fail. I was told there was nothing that I could do to make it stop, and eventually they would just give up. 2 months before I started the changes I knew that it was drawing close to the end for me, my friends and family knew it too. My husband and I had actually started discussing things like: burial, our children, and his next wife. (not that he wanted another lol but more like.....what type of person would be good for our children, etc) It is amazing to me that I no longer have any symptoms. My liver and kidneys have completely healed.....absolutely 0 damage!! I would not be here today if it was not for the diet change, daily excercise, lots and lots of water, fresh air, sunshine, and rest!! I now have no limits to what I can do. I can run! I can work from sun up to sundown! In fact 2 nights ago my husband and I went dancing and I danced for 4 hours!!!!! I know that it may seem to some that I am obsessive about the diet change etc, it is pretty much all I talk about here on this string of messages, but it is because I know that it will literally change your life. That a person does not have to suffer from these horrible illnesses. I wish you the best of everything , and I hope that you give these suggestions a try.....it will change your life too:) Peace and blessings always, Mick Allicia21@... wrote: Hello all again: Some of you I'm new to, others I've been here before and was just put on the no mail list. Guest guest
Hello, I have had a great weekend. No substantial pain, just some here and there muscle weakness types of pain. Especially in my legs. But the main difference I have made in my diet is to get off Sodas. I drank 7 to 8 big Mountain Dews a day. I felt I needed these to keep going. First one to wake me up in the morning and so forth. But now, I try to drink water, water water....and I am on Elavil at night. But yesterday I didn't have to take one pain pill(Ultracet) for pain. It was amazing. I went swimming for my exercise. I am trying to gradually work up an exercise program, because I have been very apprehensive about this. I guess I have been scared that I would exercise and it would hurt worse. But so far so good. I feel good today so far being it's 7:43 a.m., but I am thinking positive. I have lessened my red meat intake as well. Last night, my family had pork chops on the grill, and I pulled a piece of fish out of the freezer and handed to my hubby, " here cook this for me, I can't have the pork chops. " He just smiled. More vegetables and fruits as well. I used to never eat fruits especially. But now I love them. Good luck, a Faye P.s. I hope this continues to get better. --- mickness36 mickness36@...> wrote: > > Hello Allicia, > I am so sorry to hear that you are in a huge flare > up.....that is horrible...and I understand > completely. They have no meat (chicken or fish everyonce in awhile) and no sugar, no caffine...my father has went from being 5'5 @ 220 lbs to a wonderful healthier 5'5 @ 170 lbs. He did this all within a month and half. We all now men usually loose weight faster than men. So here are my mothers results she is 5'6 and refuses to tell me how much she weighs, but I know she has lost 20 lbs in 3 months. She will be 50 the end of this month and as all of us women know it is much, much harder for us to loose weight. My father has completely gone off of his high blood pressure pills and now controls with a daily glass of celery juice and he has also completely gone off of his cholestorol pills as well. Not sure which juice he uses for that. As I wouldn't advise this for everyone. He done TONS of research and reading before he attempted this. Here's a lil funny for ya...( I thought it was anyways) my dad was outside one day while I was visiting ...and my mom comes sneeking around the corner with a bag of choc. chip cookies that she had stashed in her room, because my father would yell at her if he seen her cheating...lol it soo reminded me of a lil kid sneeking cookies...I laughed for days and still laugh when I think about a 50 yr old grown woman sneeking cookies...to cute :oD~~ Allicia

Guest guest
Hello Pat:) When I first started the diet I did what is called a " cleansing diet or elimination diet " . It consisted only of fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, and water. It is reccommended that a person do this diet for at 7 days. I was very skinny when I started so I could only do it for 3 days, but it was enough to clean out my system. By the end of the 3 days I was able to walk without my cane or any support at all. That is when I started walking. I was able to walk only 1 mile at first but I walked it as fast as I could and pushed myself as hard as I could. I was very scared at first to excercise because before any increase in activity at all increased my pain level. But I had faith that this was it, besides, I tried everything over the years so what did I have to lose. After the 3 days I then switched to the fruit and veggie diet only. I tried as much as possible to stick to only fresh raw fruits and veggies. I did this diet for 2 weeks. By the end of these 2 weeks I was walking over 2 miles a day. I was able to walk fast enough that my husband couldn't keep up with me. Wow! What a rush that was!! The hardest part for me at that time was getting fresh air and sunshine because it was the deep part of the winter here! But I did it, whether or not there was 5 feet of snow on the ground. After that 2 weeks I then introduced whole grains to my diet. I was able to eat all the fresh fruit and veggies but also added pasta, fish, white chicken meat, and steamed veggies.. I read all the labels on anything canned, frozen etc. Avoid anything that has Monosodium glutamate, all white sugars, white flour, anything ending in -trose, and also there are numerous other chemicals added to foods, so avoid anything that is processed!!! By that point in my diet I was walking 4 miles a day and I started 20 minutes of low impact excercise. At first I couldn't even do 1/4 of the suggested reps but I stayed with it every day. Even when I didn't want to do it. That is the diet I pretty much stay with now. I have been on that diet for over 6 months now. After being on that diet for about 1 month I experienced my first symptom free day. Wow was that incredible! Something I never ever believed would happen. I have had 0 relapses. Now I also eat wild game in addition to the above diet. I have found that it is not seem to be meat that will cause me to have symptoms again, it is PROCESSED FOODS. If I have anything processed at all, within 18 hours I have symptoms. The symptoms are never debilitating but they are enough to let me know that processed foods....all of them.....have to removed from our diet. Now I do 40 minutes on the " stairstepper " , 15 minutes of weight lifting, and 15 minutes of low impact excercise. I have been planning to add jogging in to.....but have been procrastinating on starting. But I will one day. If I go one day without excercise, I feel it!! The hardest part about my diet now is finding variety. I just got a few veggie cookbooks so hopefully I will find more wonderful ways to add variety to my diet. I never realized the healing properties in fruits and veggies. Now I have no doubt about what they can do for us.I hope this answers your questions Pat, but if not, I will help any way that I can:) I wish you the best of luck, and I know it will change your life! One last thing. As soon as possible all medications have to be stopped. That was the scariest for me and it took me awhile to finally do it. See what happens is the medications the docs put us on are synthetic drugs. These drugs build up to toxic levels in our bodies. These toxins are stored in our bodies, but mainly in our muscles. So if we continue on our diet, but never stop the meds.....we are just spinning our wheels and it will never work the way it should. Peace and blessings to you always Pat, Mick pksmith75@... wrote: Hi again Mick, Could you tell me exactly what your diet consists of, and what exercises you do? It sounds like a miracle cure! Thanks! Thanks! Guest guest
Hello Allicia, Sounds like the doctor wants you to continue being his patient:) And to increase your protein intake. This can be done on a fruit and veggie diet. Increase your beans and lentils, whey milk and wild yams is very good also. Green veggies can also increase your protein level just not as fast as the others. And red meat I can handle but only wild game. I read where red meat in the store has 5 synthetic drugs added to make it look more red and appetizing to us. I am thrilled for you parents!! What a rush it must be for them to be older and to actually increase their health!!! Praise God!! Your Mom sounds soooo cute!! And I can see her sneaking those yummy chocolate chip cookies! lol....lol Mick Allicia21@... wrote: In a message dated 08/05/2002 7:44:50 AM US Eastern Standard Time, paulafayem@... writes: > lessened my red meat intake I just got my tests results back from Rheumy today...she is claiming that my platelets are low...she said she isn't sure why, because RA factor isn't back yet, however I can not take Iron any kind at all...I get very very sick....severe tummy cramps, the poo's and I even HURL *( So she tells me I need to eat more red meat....I totally disagree with this. I have almost cut out all meat...Will occasionally eat chicken (can't stand fish) Everything I read says get rid of meat, dairy...and much more. What are your input on this?
