Guest guest
Been reading these posts for over a year now, and i keep seeing quotes for prescription costs aroun the $600-700 dollar mark... How long are these prescriptions for? a month? a year? Sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high. I live in England and i have to pay £7.10 per prescription, or £102.50 for an unlimited amount of prescriptions in a 12 month period. Guest guest
For high dose Urso (7-300 mg capsules/day), I paid $700 for 3 months (mail order generic). I have a high deductible (read, inexpensive if you don't have any claims) insurance plan with a cap at $2500. Needless to say, I met my deductible last year. Since I've gone to " regular " dose Urso, I may not hit the deductible any more (one can only hope). Amazingly enough, annual colonoscopies are finally considered to be preventive procedures and covered " for free " (30 years too late!). Arne Been reading these posts for over a year now, and i keep seeing quotes for prescription costs aroun the $600-700 dollar mark...

Think i read it as your insurance pays for things up to $2500, then you're on your own? I'd be totally buggered, on at least 8 types of meds at the mo! (Sorry, by the way, i just have no idea how it all works over the pond!)

Guest guest
FYI- Axcan has an assistance program for Urso and Urso Forte. They have two plans; one for insured people and one for uninsured. The one for insured folks will provide $20 a month for co-pays. The other plan is for uninsured, and I also found out for people who are insured but may not have adequate coverage. This is where I fall. I have a maintenance plan at this time, not a major medical. (I know I know, I am in the process of purchasing it!!) Anyhow, my rx coverage is, get ready for a laugh, capped at $400 a year. So I am covered for, say, Jan and Feb lol, then Axcan kicks in for me and I pay $2 a month at participating pharmacies. Yep, two dollars. You can get more info here- http://www.axcan.com/assistprogram.php?lang=1 There is nothing to fill out, they ask you a few simple questions and do not need to verify anything, it is all very simple! (Thank you Montel !) ee > > Been reading these posts for over a year now, and i keep seeing

Guest guest
Posted in August of 08 Leading UK hospital makes $$ selling 'inferior' livers to foreigners However, it has emerged that at least one foreign government is now monitoring the progress of its patients amid fears they are being given inferior organs. Under UK law, British-donated livers can only be given to non-EU private patients if the organs have already been turned down for those on UK and EU waiting lists because of problems with their age or size. This has forced many transplant centres - including St 's University Hospital in Leeds - to stop treating non-EU patients because of quality concerns. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1048651/Leading-hospital-makes-4m-selling-inferior-livers-UK-donors-foreigners.html Used liver? Guest guest
Blimey! Not good! So it's either free for a good one, or extortionate prices for an unwanted one.. Guest guest
well I don't know that it's an " extortionate price " . If its a good liver that can be used by a UK recipient the government pays for it with your tax dollars. If its not good enough for the UK, it might be released for a foreigner but the UK government does not want to pay for the transplant. Blimey! :ONot good! Guest guest
Good heavens (i'm running out of family friendly expletives here), i've just checked the Amercian Liver Foundation site.. " The cost of a liver transplant currently averages about $280,000 for immediate hospital and doctor expenses. Necessary pre- and post-operative expenses bring the total to about $314,000 and in some especially complicated cases much more. Follow-up care in the years after a transplant is an additional cause for concern. Even patients whose transplants are covered by insurance find that they must raise a substantial part of the funds needed for their treatment themselves. " I guess £88,000 isn't that extortionate then. 1/4 of a million quid though? Never thought there'd be so much money involved when it comes to saving somebody's life. Does the liver cost the hospital doing the surgery anything when they take the liver from a willing donor? That i doubt, so where on earth does that kind of money come into it? Sorry about this being, well, not exactly a normal topic on here, but i'm quite frankly shocked at those sorts of figures.
