The last couple of weeks have been slow for me on the facebook side of things. I have only added 3 PSCers and are now up to 104 PSCers in my friendship list. If any of you PSCers want to join facebook its free and a great way to get to know other PSCers better. The people on the attached list have given me permission to pass their names about to other members of the support group and are willing to accept your friendship.

Subject: Re: PSC & Facebook PROFILE PHOTOS Jan 18,2009To: < >

I've identified 118 members of this group that have Facebook profiles, 101 of which are within my " friendship list " . In the attached picture are picture are 42 profile photos of people who have given me permission to pass their names around to other PSCers. There are other members of this support group that have facebook accounts but use a different email account for that and so I haven't been able to search you out. If you wish to be able to associate a face with a post feel free to request friendship from any of the people on the list. This is not a closed group (it is open to any PSCer), You can request friendship from any of these people without getting onto this list or being my even being on my friendship list. You can seek me out using my email address and view my friends all of the people on this list can be found within my friendship list.

The people on the

attached list have given me permission to pass their names

I’m wondering

why people posted their pictures on Facebook, but not on the PSC web site? Is it possible they didn’t want their

pictures posted here?

LOL!

Barb, I'm guessing it's less of a didn't want their pictures here and more of an

either they didn't know putting pictures here was an option or Facebook just

makes it so darn easy! :)

My photo is on my facebook page but I choose each person that I

befriend there. I know who is looking at my photos. Here, no clue.

Have no idea who all belongs to this group. It's not even about

security so much as I don't care to share my personal life with every

cyber soul that passes my way. With you I would gladly share my photos

because I feel like I know you. But within the group, I probably don't

even know 50 people - out of how many members here? Are we 1000 strong

or something like that? Most people on facebook have had their account

there prior to the PSC gathering there. So their pics were likely

posted prior to the gathering too. Maybe it's like a

getting-to-know-you party on fb for PSCers and within that smaller

gathering there is some comfort that might not be found in the larger

numbers of the PSC group. Or, maybe those people just haven't gotten

around to posting their pictures here.

Just my thoughts.

- And you really have no way of knowing if your “friend”

is really your friend in Facebook. The moderators make an attempt

to assure new members have valid reasons for being here, but we can no more

guarantee that than Facebook can (and yes, Yahoo! has the same privacy/use policies

Facebook has).

It’s like anything else on the internet. Don’t

post anything that you wouldn’t mind having everyone read.

I would correct that to say your "online friend". I was just saying

that my friends on face book are people I know, have met face to face,

so posting a picture wasn't even an issue. (Although, I have since

added three people from the (psc) group.) And your last statement is

so accurate. It's true even in our daily communications with people

face-to-face. You never know what someone is going to repeat or

forward. Proceed with caution always makes sense.

It’s pretty easy to “spoof” an email address –

happens all the time. Your only defense is physically confirming with the

person that that’s really who they are (and it’s still possible for

someone to “take over” your email identity. In general, I

agree that Facebook might be more secure, but take a look at http://www.consumeraffairs.com/dating_services/facebook.html,

for example.

Paranoia (on the internet) does not really meet the definition

of paranoia. I agree - proceed with caution.
