I take Melatonin before going to sleep at night and it seems to really help

me fall asleep and sleep pretty much through the night.

Maybe taking some would help you too if it's your adrenals that are low.

This is stressed adrenals. It would help if you can find some ways

to get rid of some stress for a while and take it easy. You may need

to take something strong to get a good night's sleep. This will

really help the next day and with recovery. Bad sleep the nght

before cau double the need for cortisol the next day. I have found

antihistamines work very well (Benedryl or doxalamine succinate).

When cortisol goes low in adrenal fatigue, histamine builds up and

can make you uncomfortable and achy and unable to sleep.

If night time thyroid is not working, I found for myself in the

beginning that I had to dose every two hours in the day so as to

make it easier on my adrenals. But, over time as my adrenals got

better, I found that I needed the thyroid at night to sleep the

best. I had really restless sleep from after midnight on when

thyroid went too low. So, now I take just just a bit more at night.

But, it was a while before I was able to switch from every two hours

to my current schedule. But, if the adrenals are stressed, sometimes

thyroid at night just makes it worse.

I would suggest taking an adrenal glandular or licorice root tea

every 4 hours for just a few days to give your adrenals a bit of a

rest and a chance to catch up. Thyroid increases give them a double

wammy. One, they increase the need for cortisol and two, they cause

the liver to break cortisol down and remove it from the system

faster. I found that it was helpful to increase my adrenal support

for three days starting at the same time as a dose raise. Then just

drop back down to your old dose or stop totally if you are not on

any adrenal support. This really smoothed things out and made the

raise go so much better. As long as you do it just a few days, it is

not going to make you dependent.

Adrenal stress can cause you to loose your circadian rythem and to

not produce melatonin.

I should mention, I'm loading up on things to help me sleep and even

they aren't helping much. For instance I am taking:

antihistamine (bendryl type)

melatonin

GABA

L-5htp

valerian root

I don't have much stress in my life really.

I will definitely try the licorice root tea!

How did you manage to divide up your thyroid dose into 2 hour doses?

I think I'd need some jeweler's tools and a powerful microscope to do

that! I wish I had gotten the 1 grain dose, it'd be easier to divide,

but I feel lucky I managed to even get what I did out of my GP.

I started my switch with Nutri+meds thyroid. It's very easy with

them as they are low dose.

I had problems with taking armour in the evening. Couldn't rest. It may work

for some, but it's a sure fire way for me to not sleep. I am real ugly when I

don't get my rest. heh. I was up till all hours of the night, then drug out

the next morning. I no longer take anything after 2 pm. I am sleeping like a

baby now, and actually feel more rested which I've not felt in a long time. I

did borrow some of my son's Melatonin once, and it helped me sleep.

Rough adjustment to Armour

I could hope for an easier adjustment.

I'm in my second week on Armour, taking 2 grains now. I did up from

1.5 grains after my first week.

I've had a couple of days where I felt absolutely wonderful.

Followed by a day of dragging around.

Followed by not being able to sleep, feeling wired but tired, a little

itchy and twitchy.

I've got 1.5 and .5 grain tablets and I've played with this dosing

schedule:

1/2 total dose first thing in the morning

1/2 total dose 6 hours later

Then upon recommendations from here, I divided it into thirds and

added a night time dose. This really fouled up my sleep terribly. I

have a hard time falling asleep and wake up every couple of hours. I

think I have a pretty strong reaction to the T3.

I do not have a functioning thyroid gland at all and on T4 only I

don't convert to FT3 well (I was below range on FT3).

Any suggestions? Do I just need to give it more time? I think I will

stop the bedtime dose, it is just killing my sleep. I also tried to

take it later at night but it was just as bad.

Thanks!

M.
