I always say safe rather than sorry. If Tony is not getting fluids there is dehydration, also. Hope this helps. dee > > > RE: Another cholangitis post (sorry) I'll give the same advice as before. If it was me, I'd go to the ER - that's what my hep told me to do. You could easily become septic (it's happened twice to me), which is much harder to treat and can be fatal. Granted it may be an inconvenience to the physician(s), but it could be fatal to you. Symptoms of sepsis are often related to the underlying infectious process. When the infection crosses into sepsis, the resulting symptoms are that of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS): general inflammation, fever, elevated white blood cell count (leukocytosis), and raised heart rate (tachycardia) and breathing rate (tachypnea). Secondary to the above, symptoms also include flu like chill. The immunological response that causes sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response causing widespread activation of inflammation and coagulation pathways. This may progress to dysfunction of the circulatory system and, even under optimal treatment, may result in the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and eventually death. I don't mean to scare you, but it certainly scared me! I never had a fever during cholangitis episodes either (sure had the chills). I kind of wish I'd get a fever just so I'd know for sure, either that or have everything go back to normal. What would you do? Should I just take the cipro and see if it gets better? I know you aren't medical doctors and stuff but most of you have went through this...
