Can you describe the " safe protocol " , maybe I'll recognize > whether it was done that way or not? > > Joyce Hi Joyce, Safe protocol involves the use of a rubber dam to prevent the mouth from being contaminated by the mercury as it is drilled, the use of oxygen or air so you as a patient do not breathe in the mercury vapor, sometimes charcoal is placed under the tongue to help detoxify anything you might swallow or that gets into your saliva, and some kind of vacuum device that sucks up the mercury dust as the dentist is drilling. Also I think a slower drill is preferred, don't remember why. I think that is most of it. If safe protocol is not used by a mercury-free dentist, you can just get re-poisoned by the exposure of having them drilled out. I am pretty sure that is part of what happened to me. R.
