I talked to my new doc about this one. His view is that in

mensturating women with heavy periods (that would be me), their

ferritin is low because of the bleeding. Giving iron is like trying

to cover the end of a garden hose with your finger - you're still in a

losing situation. He says that it better to treat the cause, namely

messed up hormones, than to just take iron to treat the symptom.

I'm taking Chromagen Forte. It's not sulfate, but I'd have to look up

what it is. It's supposed to be more absorbable. I'll have a ferritin

recheck in a month and go from there. Most likely, I'll stop the iron

and just go with the hormone balancing. He says that low ferritin

clears up in about the same time either way, but with the hormonal

methid, you don't have to worry about constipation, food or medicine

timing, etc.

Cheers,

Friday

Friday, be careful with the comments of your new doc. Low Ferritin

does not necessary correct itself when you correct female hormonal

problems. It can be related to other yet unknown issues, and seems

to be common with many hypo folks. Even though I am on an optimal

dose of Armour, and have corrected most of my female issues, my

Ferrtin will fall if I stop my iron supplement. It would be great if

I could find out the cause, but so far, it's a mystery. Janie
