Guest guest
I would think since Psc is an auto-immune disease and that you will still have the same immune system after transplant, that the chances of recurrence would be fairly high

Guest guest
I guess if you take PSC at face value... it describes the condition of the liver and bile ducts. If you have replaced the liver and bile ducts, then you no longer have this condition by definition. Now the underlying cause is (might) still be there - the suspected auto-immune disorder, which will (could) begin to go to work on the new liver. Maybe when the disease and mechanics of the disease are understood better, the name will change and describe this mechanism instead of it's outward effect! Guest guest
I agree with you about describing the mechanism instead of it's outward effect. I have been thinking that once scientists discover that than a cure can't be far behind! We have got to figure out what the causes are. I believe that genes, virus' and food are the culprits. (Especially since so many psc patients suffer from some form of IB, UC, etc.) I read awhile back that this disease has been around for at least 100 years. You would think we would know more by now. When I first questioned my doc about cure and he replied liver transplant it didn't make much sense! What about after that I said are you cured? This was his actual response...well you will probably die of something else before that happens. ????????? I have since found out through research and this site that it can come back. This is such a myserious disease that no one has figured out what the difinitive causes are. Jeannie:) p.s. on a hopeful note....gene therapies (gene transplantation) i believe are going to revolutionize diseases in our lifetime! I thope and belief is that a cure for this disease is right around the corner ( 5-7 years)! I guess if you take PSC at face value... it describes the condition of the liver and bile ducts.
