Guest guest
Hi! Hope you all are feeling great! I'm not sure where/why the thread on Dr. Porterucha started, but I thought I'd jump in. Dr. P is my PSC doctor as well. I just spent well over a month with him at Mayo. At first, I can't say I cared much for him. (If anyone needs/wants specifics, I'll be glad to share the story individually, but I won't bore you all with it!). Anyhow, I seriously thought about changing doctors for a while there. However, the more tests he ran and the sicker he saw I was, the nicer and more caring I found him to be (although I'd say warm would be a stretch!) I also respect the fact that when he was confused about test results and didn't understand lab images, etc. he brought in Dr. Gores and Lindor of his own accord and discussed my results with them. He always returns calls promptly (which is an amazing medical feat worthy of at least three lifetime achievement awards!) and really has morphed into one of the more caring physicians I've ever met. At this point, I'm satisfied with my care with him (and have found him far more effective than Mayo J) and have no issues with him remaining as my doctor, particularly since he's now working so closely with Dr. Gores and Lindor. I actually count myself as lucky to have been sent to him.Okay. So, all of that was just my long, drawn out way of saying that if you go to see Dr. P and have the same first impression I did, you may want to give him a second chance. He may not be perfect, but I really do believe he has my (and his other patients') best interests at heart. I think he's a good guy to have in our corner(s)!Hope that helps whoever was wondering about him! :)Sandi in VA
