Guest guest
Wonderful question. Here are answers: 1) If your morning temp is between 97.8 and 98.2, you could be at a great dose. 2) If your mid-afternoon temp is around 98.6, you could be at a great dose. 3) If you have resolved most all of your symptoms, you could be at a great dose. 4) If your free T3 is toward the top, if not over, and you have a great temp and no more obvious symptoms, you could be at a great dose. 5) If in doubt, I see no issue with going up 1/4 grain at a time. It's a small way to push the limit, and see how you do. I did that at 2 grains, which I thought was my optimal dose.......went up 1/4 grain at a time, and held each raise several weeks. When I got up to 3 1/4 grains--viola. No hyper and feeling great. I am now trying out 3 1/2 grains----so far, so good. I am sure I am at or near my optimal dose anyway. Also, it's important to make sure you are optimized in other areas--- female hormones, ferritin, testosterone, etc etc etc. Janie > How can you tell when you're on enough thyroid? The free t3 and free T4 lab tests don't necessarily tell you, because if you're tissue resistant, the labs will look good but you'll still be hypothyroid at the cellular level. > > Can you go by temperature - if your basal temp is consistently between 97.8 and 98.2 in the morning (is that range only for axilliary temps?) and you're around 98.6 mid-day, does that mean you're at an optimum level? > > Do you go by absence of symptoms? Guest guest
Subject: Re: How do you know when you have enough thyroid? Janie and Cindi, Thanks for your answers on this question. I asked this because my temps seem to be good, even though I've been back up to 2 gr. for only two weeks now. Maybe that has something to do with the high doses of selenium and kelp, among many other supplements, that my nutritional consultant started me on in January. But I believe I will continue slowly increasing a 1/4 gr. at a time until I start to feel some hyper symptoms. Lynn

Guest guest
>I would love to know the same things, as I think I get there, and >then some same old symptoms crop up weeks down the road. That happened to me before I figured out to press the limit. I pressed the limit when I remembered that the minimal dose of Armour, before T4- only meds and before the TSH, was 3-5 grains. I thought hmmmm. So I inched my way up...and no more of those old symptoms cropping up. But.......getting more into peri-meno ripped me backwards again. Last December was the absolute pits. Today, 3 months later, I am almost back to where I was.....but still need a little more improvement in my progesterone to get there. Peri-meno sucks. Guest guest
What are the signs of peri-meno? I'm 44 (45 in august) and don't think I've started that yet, what should I watch for? kk > > >I would love to know the same things, as I think I get there, and > >then some same old symptoms crop up weeks down the road. > > That happened to me before I figured out to press the limit.
