Dear Friends, family and Colleagues,

Since some of you may be planning vacations to Hawai'i for the holidays or for next summer, thought it appropriate to pass this information along, about the 1st ever, smoke free hotel in Hawai'i! It was a huge public health triumph. Others may follow if this proves a success. I urge you to lend your patronage to this brave hotelier.

Sincerely,

Narda Tolentino

Tobacco Prevention Advocates:

I am so pleased to pass on the news that the Ohana Reef Lanai in Waikiki is

voluntarily going 100% smoke-free on November 20, 2003!     The official

press release is attached with full details.

This is a win - win situation for the hotel and the community.  With an

increasing demand for smoke-free rooms, the Ohana Hotel management knows

that it will be great for business and residents and visitors to Hawaii

will now have a place to stay where they can breathe clean air.

The Coalition hopes to foster more positive relationships, such as this

one,  with the business community.   The norm across the nation is shifting

and despite what the tobacco industry likes to promote, we can now feel

very confident when we spread the message that "GOING SMOKE-FREE IS GOOD

FOR BUSINESS"

I encourage you to help spread the good news!   Tell your friends, family

and co-workers to patronize the Ohana Reef Lanai because they will now be

guaranteed a smoke-free room.   Please let me know if you have

opportunities where we can highlight the Ohana Hotels and continue to show

that it is good business to care about the health of the community!
