Guest guest
Ok.. I just spoke with my Endo.. I told him I was not taking the 15mg per day he prescribed of Armour but 45 and 30 mg during the day. He seemed sort of ok with that.. said, well, lets test and see what comes out.. but then, me and my big mouth had to say.. :and I'm taking them sublingually.. silence on his part and then.. " well, there are no studies saying Armour should be taken sublingually.. you may need much less if you are swallowing them " .. I'm hoping someone here will have some written evidence that Armour works better sublingually...only because that's what Doctors put their faith in.. rather than what actually works... Guest guest
Sorry, there are no studies done on this. There is an old paper somewhere talking about problems with a batch of natural thyroid that was made into such overly compressed tablets that doctors were advised to tell patients to chew them or they just went staight through and were never absorbed. It was about this time that they realized that chewing increased absorption. It is also well known that many medications suffer losses due to stomach acid and digestive enzymes. You could present him with material on how hormone patches are so effective and require hugely less hormone to be used than with pills. Another proof is that they have found in studies that the vitamin B12 is much more absorbed when taken sublingually. They used to think that you had to get this with shots because the stomach destroyed so much of it. But, since then, they have learned that if you dissolve it sublingually, it is well absorbed. So, there is a lot of evidence for this in other vitamins and medicines, especially hormones. About 80% of prometrium pills (progesterone) is lost to the breakdown in the digestive tract. So, when you take progesterone as a pill, you need 200 mg vs. through the skin only 20 mg. I think if your doc is not smart enough to think this through for himself he's kind of a dope and his education was wasted on him.
