Need advice about fever with stent

Hello,

I'm asking for some advice regarding my situation. I have a stent in

my CBD right now that has been in for 4 weeks, before the stent I had

increased pain and through the roof liver enzymes. After the stent I

developed cholangitis had a round of cipro, now a few weeks later I'm

having slightly increased pain and been running a low grade fever

around 100-101. Had my liver enzymes done yesterday and they are

significantly down. The problem is my Dr.is out of town until Dec. and

I'm not sure if it can wait or not since my labs are down. However,

I'm not real comfortable sitting around with a fever.

Is it ok to wait or should I go to urgent care? Does it sound like it

could be a slight case of Cholangitis again or maybe that my body is

trying to reject the stent???

Thanks for any ideas

My hepatologist's instructions to me, if I had a fever of 101--no

matter with a stent or not--would be to head to the ER. Suspect

cholangitis until proven otherwise is what I'm told.

I suggest you call his office and ask for advice, they should have another doctor who will be on call. Perhaps an antibiotic would solve the problem. I was always told that if I got a fever over 100 to call the docs or go to the ER. Be sure to tell whoever you talk to that you have a stent because they can cause an infection. My advice is to play it safe and seek some help today and not wait until the week-end when you can't find anyone to talk to.

Hi

Best wishes for a good recovery,

I am sure the words 'the Dr. was knowledgable about PSC' must gladden

the hearts the PSC family, I imagine that when this discussion board

was started...hom many years ago?.. that would have been a rareity

(sp?).

> Thanks for the replies, I knew if I didn't go into urgent care I

would just be worried about it, so I went in and the Dr. was

knowledgable about PSC, and felt like it was Cholangitis so I'm on

Flagyl and Cipro now.

Hey jennifer that happened to me a few months ago as well. THey found

that is was some sludge at the end of the stent after a ultrasound.

Make sure you follow up with your primary PSC dr.

under 101.5. But it is definitely worth checking. Sometimes I find by

myself that extreme stress or sleeping for extended periods causes a

rise to 100.5. But again in such a case I suggest a consult with the

doctor on call.
