Need advice about fever with stent

Hello,

I'm asking for some advice regarding my situation. I have a stent in

my CBD right now that has been in for 4 weeks, before the stent I had

increased pain and through the roof liver enzymes. After the stent I

developed cholangitis had a round of cipro, now a few weeks later I'm

having slightly increased pain and been running a low grade fever

around 100-101. Had my liver enzymes done yesterday and they are

significantly down. The problem is my Dr.is out of town until Dec. and

I'm not sure if it can wait or not since my labs are down. However,

I'm not real comfortable sitting around with a fever.

Is it ok to wait or should I go to urgent care? Does it sound like it

could be a slight case of Cholangitis again or maybe that my body is

trying to reject the stent???

I was also told the same, and find that the actual doc discounts under 101.5. But it is definitely worth checking. Sometimes I find by myself that extreme stress or sleeping for extended periods causes a rise to 100.5. But again in such a case I suggest a consult with the doctor on call. It sounds like to me cholangitis attack coming on. I would suggest that if your fever goes above 101 to go to ER because you can become septic quickly. Are you on cipro daily? Do they give you IV Cipro before stenting? My husband is a transplant recipent 2005 and has been through this numerous times. Definitely keep a good eye on labs work. When in doubt go to ER. Hope this helps you and not scare you but this is serious stuff not to mess with. Tina

It sounds like to me cholangitis attack coming on. I would suggest that if your fever goes above 101 to go to ER because you can become septic quickly. Are you on cipro daily? Hey jennifer that happened to me a few months ago as well. THey found

that is was some sludge at the end of the stent after a ultrasound.

Make sure you follow up with your primary PSC dr.

I have had well over 15 ERCPS. Extended pain is not normal. Repeated

infections (sepsis) are something you want to keep a close eye on.

Dont try to bite the bullet concerning the pain. Sometimes a stent

will drop and protrude into the duodenum raking backing and forth

against the internal surface of the small intestine. I would approach

my GI/HP about removal ASAP if the pain and fever are

persistant.There are times a stent may pass thru your system, usually

with no harm done(very strange feeling).
