Guest guest
racing heart Anyone else have a very rapid heart rate? I've been on medication to treat this, but it's back again, so I think I need a medication adjustment. I hate having all these vague symptoms. I have to go back to my GP tomorrow and I can just feel the rolled eyes attitude that I'm going to get. My heart has been racing off and on lately and I'm wondering what's going on with it. In addition to beating fast it also feels like it is beating hard...it actually feels like it is thudding or something and I feel a lot of pressure with it Don't really like it but it happens infrequently enough that I would never be able to get to a doctors office WHILE it is happening. What medication are you taking for it? Jen in Iowa
Guest guest
Hi Jen, I'm on a beta blocker that slows my heart rate down. But, the current dosage just isn't cutting it. The problem is, it also lowers your blood pressure. So, I can't take too much! My heart feels like it's thudding too. Almost like it's beating too hard. Or skipping a beat. This could be a medication side effect. So, maybe I'll be starting something new today when I go to the doctor. I hate this feeling. It keeps me from working out and when I don't work out, I feel worse. thanks for your reply. Hope you're having a good day.
Guest guest
You really should talk to your doctor even though I understand the looks! I experienced briefs bout of this for years. Originally, it was while I was pregnant so I was told that it was caused by hormones. It would usually stop after 20 or 30 minutes. About 10 years ago, I ended up at the ER because it would not go away. They hooked me up to the machines and my heart rate was over 200 resting. They ended up doing an IV push to convert me. I was sent home with recommendations to see a cardiologist. I did and was diagnosed with SVT, Supraventricular Tachycardia. I was prescribed a heart medication which also lowered my blood pressure which is not good as mine is already low. I started retaining a lot of fluid so they decided that I should take the medication at a higher dose only when my heart raced. This would usually stop the racing within 30 minutes. A few years ago, it got much worse. I was having to take the medicine several times a week. Also, I had to go to the ER for conversion at least twice a year. My cardiologist decided to recommend me for cardiac ablation. They did a procedure last April where they run a laser catheter into your heart from your groin. They make your heart race then laser the quivering area. Since the procedure, I have been free of this heart problem. As I have other health problems, Fibro, CFS, Psoriatic Arthritis, it was a relief to have one problem taken care of! So you may want to visit a cardiologist. Did they change your meds or have any answers for you? Hope all went well and hope you get to feeling better. Jen
Guest guest
Thanks for asking , My GP increased the dose of the beta blocker I'm on. I'm hoping it will help. I had a strange virus as a kid and that's when my heart started speeding up. He thinks that my fibro is aggravating it. Gotta go. take care, > > > Re: racing heart > > > So, maybe I'll be starting something new today when I go to the > doctor. > I hate this feeling. Guest guest
I am not sure how old inderal is. I started taking for neurocardiogenic syncope. Not quite sure how it helps keep my episodes from occuring. Well, it dosn't help much, but the nurse said that taking the new med will increase my bp to hopefully keep me from passing out. We'll see how it goes. The nurse said that it would take about 4 to 6 weeks before I notice any thing. If it helps I'll be patient. Thanks! Take care!! ~ ---------------------------------
