Guest guest
Bobbi, Sorry I did not copy this from the caring bidge site, I got tied up dealing with this facebook issue. You and have my continued prayers. is lookin much better than he did before the transplant. Ian MONDAY, MARCH 23, 2009 05:33 PM, CDTWell not such a good day today. Some of Chris's liver numbers were elevated, his creatinine is high and blood pressure is low. Dr. Friddell didn't even really examine him, just walked in, looked at his labs and said 'I'm admitting you.' Tomorrow he has to have a liver biopsy, a drain put in (to get rid of the excess fluid from Thursday) and some sort of test he said is like an ERCP but instead of putting a tube down his throat, they'll stick a needle in his side. It will basically look at his bile ducts and liver and see if there are any blockages or strictures. He's already told them he wants to be sedated or he's NOT doing any of the procedures. I'm going back and spending the night at the hospital tonight. Skylar's spending the night with Mamaw & Papaw and our wonderful neighbors across the street are going to check in on the cats. If anyone needs to get ahold of me, call the cell phone. And keep praying please!!!!!! I'll post an update when I know something about tomorrow's tests. -- Ian Cribb P.Eng.cell: (6...Enefen - Reviewer/Designerwww.enefen.com

Unfortunately, after transplant there are still hiccups that we go through. The prayer is that they are just that, a hiccup and nothing serious. I went through the exact same thing as is going through following my transplant. The only difference is that I never got discharged following the surgery until they got all the " plumbing " fixed. Once they replaced the tubes and allowed the bile to drain on the outside a little longer, my numbers and bilirubin went back down. I pray it is as simple for Chris. I was not sedated for the procedure of going through my side to check for blockage and tubing, they only numbed that area and gave me a little versed so I would not care. Pain is so hard to deal with after going through a transplant so I understand why wants to be sedated. Sometimes, a pinch in the ducts can cause our numbers to go high, I hope it is nothing serious. Please stay encouraged, it does get better I promise. Tammy PSC 01, TX 5-4-06, UC 11-08, rPSC 11-
Guest guest
- They're probably doing a PTC -- I've had many. Sedation is used and Chris should be foggily aware, but not feel pain or remember anything about it (two drugs are used for sedation at my hosp.). If he feels pain, he should speak up, but that's unusual. Given a choice, I'd have a PTC over an ERCP any day of the week! Guest guest
Bobbi and As others have said, some hiccups can be expected early in the first year. I too had an issue where my numbers were elevated. I had two liver biopsies and a couple of MRI’s and an ERCP. They were considering a PTC (Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography) but the issue was found. Mine was a reaction to one of the meds. When that was stopped, my numbers trended to normal pretty quickly. As far as the liver biopsy, I had one through the abdomen and one trans-jugular. I had enough sedation to not feel a thing, but awake enough to know what was going on during the procedure. I had to wait a couple of hours before they would let me go just to make sure there were no issues. Neither of these were a big deal for me – I remember how cold the room was more than anything else. I also had a PTC, which is using a needle to go through the liver to view the bile ducts. I had some discomfort during this procedure, but I think a lot of that was my fault. This was really early in my transplant process and I was not nearly as comfortable complaining about discomfort. Also, they told me prior to the procedure that I would no doubt have some chills later in the day – as the PA put it, teeth chattering, body-shaking chills. She was right. I felt bad for a couple of hours. The nurses gave me a shot and I slept for a little bit and then things were back to normal. I did have some minor discomfort for a couple of weeks whenever I took a deep breath. It hurt at the point where the needle was inserted on my side. I understand wanting sedation. Speak up if it hurts. You are past the really hard part. Hopefully they’ll find the issue and it will be a quick fix.
