Guest guest
So I was diagnosed a little over a year ago, and haven't had too many symptoms since, but about a month ago I've started to experience extreme itching, especially my feet, ankles, and hands. I've made myself bleed so many times that I'm glad I live in IL and it's winter so I don't have to show my legs with shorts or dresses. My doctor prescribed me rifampin and that seems to keep it under control during the night when it's worse. I had my blood tested, and my results were better than they were in November, and back then I didn't have any itching. They want me to come in for an MRCP to make sure that everything is ok. I just don't get why I'd be itchy if my blood tests are better than before. Any thoughts?
Guest guest
My itching was short lived; however, it had nothing to do with my Lab values were. I spent six months trying to find some reason I itched and some way to tame it. One day, I woke up and it was gone. That was in 1990 and I had only an occasional, short lived episodes of itching in the next 17 years, Never were they during times when my Lab values were high or low. My GI really was amazed that I escaped most of the itching and even more so when my labs went through the roof. When was the last time you had an ERCP or an MRCP? Some physicians recommend one or the other annually. By the way, where are you in IL? I am near Peoria. Guest guest
I am so sorry that you are now experiencing the symptom of itching. Itching has always been my son's worst symptom with PSC and rPSC. There has never been any rhyme or reason to what triggers his itching...his lab numbers never had anything to do with it. I hope that the Rifampin continues to keep help. Guest guest
My last ERCP was April 2008 (resulting in pancreantitis and a week hospitalized... yuck!), and I have annual MRCPs, usually in July of each year. That is lucky that you didn't experience a lot of itching. I can't imagine having to live with it for prolonged periods over years and years. Thanks for your response! btw, I live in a suburb of Chicago. > > My itching was short lived; however, it had nothing to do with my Lab values > were.
