Hi , yes it was the blizzard of 78. I remember it well...

I grew up in the country also and had many dogs, mostly strays that came to

us. It is very hard. We had pups from one of our females and we kept two.

Named them BJ and Bear (anyone remember that TV show?) Dad farmed and had

large farm equipment and such. One day, he was backing out of the shop and

ran over Bear. Oh my, that was just awful. It was on my neice's 5th

birthday. Dad had to shoot him and I knew it just killed him to do it.

Also when we moved to the new farm we brought our german shephard with us.

She was a beautiful dog and always protected me when I was outside. I think

she wanted to go back to our other home as she was out on the road running.

This man driving a tractor didn't see her and ran over her. The vet had to

amputate her back leg and said she would be all right. She died of shock

that night. I cried for days. I do have alot of good memories of those

dogs. They were family, just like my dog and birds are now. Don't know

what I'd do without them, especially with this stupid FMS. Sometimes I hurt

soooo bad when I cry that my little Sophie thinks she has to lay with me.

It's rather comforting :) Alot of humans might not understand how bad I

feel but I always know that Sophie does.

Hugs,

Sherri
