Guest guest
I get so aggravated about " helpful' people who know zip about fibro but think they have all the answers. Today, I heard from a family member who said she works with a woman who has fibro and that it is just a magnesium deficiency. She supposedly learned this in a fibro class taught by Kaiser for it's members. So all you have to do is eat lots of food with magnesium and you will be cured. The person telling me this sent along a list of foods I should and should not eat and I just know that if I don't follow this " miracle cure " diet that I will be blamed for still having fibro. Someone else told me that I have fibro because I eat too many sweets (she doesn't care for sweets so anyone who has any kind of health problems, it must be because of the sweets). I am tired of explaining, over and over again, about fibro and can feel myself about to snap someone's head off the next time I get another cheery breathless e-mail about a " cure " . How do the rest of you deal with these pushy, ill-informed but probably well intentioned people? Sue
Guest guest
Sue~ In the beginning my mom told me I just had to get up and do something and that I could just work though it. Well, one day I took along a book on fibro and gave it to her to read. Since then she's more understanding about how I am feeling. Also, I have printed things from the internet on fibro and I have used those too. That is what I did. My mom also found out that a woman at church has fibro too. That also has helped her become more understanding. I hope this helps you some. ~ ---------------------------------
Guest guest
Sue, I totally sympathize. My friends and family do the same thing. And a couple of people at work. It's very aggravating. I just bite my tongue and thank them for the sugesstion. Unless it's my family. I'm a little more free with them. As in, " hhmm, I've already tried that, and guess what, it didn't work! " lol. I have one friend who doesn't push cures or suggestions on me. She's wonderfully supportive and I love her for that, and feel very grateful to her for not pushing cures off on me. I think if there weren't so many conflicting reports about Fibro, people wouldn't have so many cures to try. You mentioned the one lady telling you sweets caused it. I know that several group members can't eat chocolate, because it will cause a flare, but yet I have no problem eating chocolate at all. I have problems with MSG and other preservatives. Go figure. :-) Anyway, don't let them get you down Sue. Most people are doing it to be genuinely helpful, so take it in the spirit the advice is given. Have a good day. Take care,
