Guest guest
Hi , welcome aboard! YES I had some horrid joint pain that I thought was with me for life and about 80% of it is GONE now! I have been steadily on Armour for about 6 years now and it took a long time for most the pain to go away but now I just get a stiff back once in a while. No more popping knees or painful hips at all. I am 50 now. As for the weight loss... alot of hypos never seem to regain the best fat burning mechanisms even on good replacement meds. I am still unable to lose the weight I need to, but some others have lost as soon as they got on their correct dosage of Armour so don;t give up hope! I am still playing with adding this & that to help conversion and I am also battling a poisoning with pesticides so I do have special considerations others might not have to deal with. *Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, " You're next. " They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals

Guest guest
> Another question, I've been dieting for 2 years and can't lose weight> even on low calories. Will my calorie burning machine ever return to> normal, or am I doomed to having the metabolism of a three-toed sloth> for eternity? Yes, your metabolism will increase when you get to the right dose of hormones - however, it's important you also increase you calories and stop dieting for a while. You're only further stressing your thyroid and your adrenals by dieting right now. The interplay of hormones doesn't just extend to thyroid / sex hormones - it also includes those that govern hunger, especially those that originate in the hypothalamus. There's also a very real conncetion between leptin - the hormone that determins if you're hungry or not - and thyroid. Dieting lowers FT3, something thats already low in you to begin with. If you increase your cals slowly (to the tune of 100-150 a day for a week, then another 100 more the next week, until you've gained about 4 lbs you'll do more good for yourself than you could imagine). FT3 recovers rapidly once cals are raised - carb in particular. Eating every few hours (5-6 x a day) will also help your thyroid and adrenals - less stress on them. This will help your body use the Armour better. And when you do go back to trying to lose think about zigzagging your calories - every 4th day have a day of calories at maintenance, it will keep you thyroid happy and it will make it possible for you to keep losing fat. Guest guest
Has anyone noticed muscle pain, stiffness, cracking , joint pain? I started having this pretty bad starting a month ago. I have been on 3 1/4 grain for 4 weeks now, just added adrenal support today. Guest guest
Yes, those pains can go away if you are on the proper dose of armour or other natural thyroid. I don't function well with a TSH of over 1., so to have 2.anything would make me be unbearable to live around or with. I remember once when my dose of armour was too low, my right ankle area hurt for two days. I just started on Armour this week after being on Levoxyl for almost 20 years (RAI for graves). I'm pretty sure I have been slightly HypoT the entire time on Levoxyl. Guest guest
Hi . You probably don't need another post--you've gotten some great ones. But I did want to contribute that your problem may not be that you " don't convert T4 well. " It may simply be that you have been on a T4-only med....and have not been getting direct T3 as your thyroid WOULD have been giving you.......and as Armour will! I, too, have always had the metabolism of a slug. Now, on my optimal dose of Armour, which has been 3 1/4 grains, I have noted that I don't gain the weight as easily as I used to. Granted, I have not " tried " to diet seriously yet, but I can tell that I might have to chance to lose the weight I so want to lose. It's only 10 lbs, but losing 10 lbs for ME has been like lifting a mountain!! When you find your morning temp to be between 97.8 - 98.2, and your afternoon temp to be at 98.6---it can be a sign that your metabolism is very optimal.......and that you might be on your optimal dose....and that you might be able to finally LOSE that weight!! Guest guest
Kerry I have had all that you mentioned right from the start of hypo, I'm surprised that you're only getting these symptoms now and on 3 1/4 grains. I found that I had to get off armour for a couple of weeks for the adrenal support to do its work and then slowly titrate the armour again Lynda Re: Questions about recovering from HypoT from a newbie Has anyone noticed muscle pain, stiffness, cracking , joint pain? I started having this pretty bad starting a month ago. I have been on 3 1/4 grain for 4 weeks now, just added adrenal support today. I would like to increase my dose starting Monday, any thoughts? Guest guest
I have had the cracking thing since I was on 1 1/2 grain, I just didn't think about it much as it seemed to wax and wain. But, the higher I go on Armour, the worse it seems to get.
